{"id":1022,"date":"2026-01-15T05:30:42","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T10:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/star977fm.com\/?p=1022"},"modified":"2026-01-14T15:38:04","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T20:38:04","slug":"01-15-26-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/star977fm.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/15\/01-15-26-news\/","title":{"rendered":"01-15-26 News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Adult-use cannabis licensing faces Ellsworth city council vote<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After voters approved the opening of adult-use cannabis in 2024, changes have been moving through the Ellsworth City Council as they discuss licensing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Jan. 20, the city council will vote on the adoption of a new license which will open the business application period and start the lottery process according to the Ellsworth American.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If the council implements this new licensing protocol, performance standards will also be in place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The paper reports if things continue to move forward the lottery could take place in June.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ellsworthamerican.com\/news\/business\/council-to-vote-on-adult-use-cannabis-licensing-lays-path-for-implementation\/article_34d76aff-eb44-42d2-8294-0ba0390805c3.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/www.ellsworthamerican.com\/news\/business\/council-to-vote-on-adult-use-cannabis-licensing-lays-path-for-implementation\/article_34d76aff-eb44-42d2-8294-0ba0390805c3.html<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Northern Light primary care in Castine expected to move locations<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Castine residents will see a primary care practice move to Blue Hill in February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Northern Light Health will move to the Sussman Health Center on the Northern Light Blue Hill campus according to the Bangor Daily News.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Doors will open on Feb. 27 and patient care in Castine will end on that same day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Northern Light Health officials tell the BDN the Castine location faced challenges similar to other locations across the state which includes staffing shortages, difficult access and decreasing patient panels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Castine staff is expected to contact patients to help them transition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bangordailynews.com\/2026\/01\/13\/hancock\/hancock-health\/northern-light-health-moving-castine-primary-care-practice\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/www.bangordailynews.com\/2026\/01\/13\/hancock\/hancock-health\/northern-light-health-moving-castine-primary-care-practice\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Businesses impacted by recent drought can apply for assistance<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Small Business Administration has announced small businesses and private nonprofits affected by last summer\u2019s drought can apply for assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Officials say the disaster declaration covers multiple counties across the state including Hancock and Washington counties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WABI news reports the loan would cover working capital needed caused by the drought starting on Aug. 19 even if no physical damage occurred.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sba.gov\/disaster\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">sba.gov\/disaster<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Scallop emergency closures<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Maine Department of Marine Resources has issued a Scallop emergency closure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The areas that have been affected include Casco Bay Islands, Lower Blue Hill and Jericho Bay, Upper Narraguagus, Inside Chandler Bay and Cobscook, Whiting and Dennys Bays.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The scallop management area map will be updated Friday to reflect the closure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/dmr\/sites\/maine.gov.dmr\/files\/inline-files\/SCALLOP%20EMERGENCY%20CLOSURES_%20Casco%20Bay%20Islands%20%28Z1%29%2C%20Lower%20Blue%20Hill%20Bay%20%28Z2%29%2C%20Upper%20Narraguagus%20%28Z2%29%2C%20Inside%20Chandler%20Bay%20%28Z2%29%2C%20Cobscook%2C%20Whiting%20%26%20Dennys%20Bays%20%28Z3%29.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SCALLOP EMERGENCY CLOSURES: Casco Bay Islands (Z1), Lower Blue Hill Bay (Z2), Upper Narraguagus (Z2), Inside Chandler Bay (Z2), Cobscook, Whiting &amp; Dennys Bays (Z3)<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Gas prices in Maine<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prices at the pump have gone down this week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">AAA says the average price for a gallon of gas in Maine is $2.91 which is a two-cent drop from last week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However the average prices for gas in Maine are 12-cents higher than the national average.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">AAA reports the average price of diesel in Maine is $3.96 which is a two cent drop from last week but still higher than it was a year ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>AIO Fill the Strand event<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We are less than a week away from an awesome AIO Food and Energy Assistance event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fill the Strand will return for its sixth year as a food and funds drive benefiting the programs at AIO such as the weekend meal program, diaper assistance program, home delivery program and so much more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Volunteers will be at The Strand theatre in Rockland between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Jan. 19 to receive the food and funds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This weekend the AIO van will be on the go and they\u2019ll stop at the Walmart in Thomaston from 11-3 on Saturday and the Hannaford in Camden from 11-3 on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">So if you\u2019re in the area feel free to donate bags of food.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aiofoodpantry.org\/strand\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/www.aiofoodpantry.org\/strand<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>The Grand announced auditions for \u2018Charlotte\u2019s Web\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Charlotte\u2019s Web is a favorite by E.B.
