400">It’s an effort that’s been going on for quite some time now.

Volunteers flocked their way to Surry to chop, carry and stack piles of wood to distribute to homes in the area during the winter months.

The Downeast Wood Bank supplies firewood for free to people who need it to heat their homes and the demand continues to grow however they’re running out of supply.

The Ellsworth American reports despite that, volunteers are still working to fill that gap for community members who use firewood to heat their homes.

They usually purchase the wood through private donations or community collaborations so if you’d like to donate, volunteer or contact the wood bank for assistance, follow the link below.

<a program awarded funds for restoration project in Acadia National Park

The Maine Natural Resource Conservation Program has been awarded over $4.6 million for 10 projects around the state.

The goal with the projects is to restore and enhance freshwater and coastal wetlands and streams according to the Maine DEP.

One of those projects include restoring and reconnecting wetlands in Acadia National Park.

<span style="font-weight: wetland.

This will return it to a natural state improving habitats for native species, reducing flooding and enabling the environment to function
