Ahead of the snowfall expected throughout the day, the Hancock County Sheriff\u2019s office posted on their facebook page an advisory warning residents to move about their day with caution.<\/span><\/p>\n Police warn residents to take a few extra minutes to clear the snow off your roof and lights before getting on the road.<\/span><\/p>\n As blinding the driver behind you with a mobile blizzard isn\u2019t the best scenario.<\/span><\/p>\n They also encourage you to check on your neighbors and ensure your pets are warm.<\/span><\/p>\n If you\u2019re out and about, please drive safe and keep it slow.<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/1C9PUbWped\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Volunteers through Downeast Wood Bank working to meet high demand<\/b><\/p>\n It\u2019s an effort that\u2019s been going on for quite some time now.<\/span><\/p>\n Volunteers flocked their way to Surry to chop, carry and stack piles of wood to distribute to homes in the area during the winter months.<\/span><\/p>\n The Downeast Wood Bank supplies firewood for free to people who need it to heat their homes and the demand continues to grow however they\u2019re running out of supply.<\/span><\/p>\n The Ellsworth American reports despite that, volunteers are still working to fill that gap for community members who use firewood to heat their homes.<\/span><\/p>\n They usually purchase the wood through private donations or community collaborations so if you\u2019d like to donate, volunteer or contact the wood bank for assistance, follow the link below.<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/www.ellsworthamerican.com\/news\/wood-bank-hustles-to-meet-growing-demand-we-want-it-to-last-for-the-people\/article_df7d784f-c2c7-45c7-8a4e-b6bc495a730f.html<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Maine program awarded funds for restoration project in Acadia National Park<\/b><\/p>\n The Maine Natural Resource Conservation Program has been awarded over $4.6 million for 10 projects around the state.<\/span><\/p>\n The goal with the projects is to restore and enhance freshwater and coastal wetlands and streams according to the Maine DEP.<\/span><\/p>\n One of those projects include restoring and reconnecting wetlands in Acadia National Park.<\/span><\/p>\n Lauren Gibson, Wild Acadia Coordinator for Friends of Acadia says the funding helps push forward restoration efforts of the Great Meadow, which is Acadia\u2019s largest freshwater wetland.<\/span><\/p>\n This will return it to a natural state improving habitats for native species, reducing flooding and enabling the environment to function effectively in a changing climate.<\/span><\/p>\n Maine DOT to host public hearing in Orland on traffic light at intersection\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n After concerns have increased surrounding the safety of the intersection of School House Road and Route 1, a public hearing will be held Thursday, Feb. 12.<\/span><\/p>\n The Maine Department of Transportation will have an in person hearing about the planned installation of a traffic signal at the high crash spot.<\/span><\/p>\n The hearing will start at 6 p.m. in the Community Center Gymnasium.<\/span><\/p>\n For more information on the hearing just follow the link on our website to find out more through the town of Orland.<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/townoforland.org\/2026\/02\/06\/public-hearing-dot-traffic-light-home-coop-hill\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Knox Clinic to host free community workshop<\/b><\/p>\n Do you rely on your hands and arms heavily during the day?<\/span><\/p>\n Well, you might want to sit in on an informational workshop that\u2019s free through the Knox Clinic.<\/span><\/p>\n On Friday, Feb. 13 starting at 10 a.m., the clinic at 22 White Street in Rockland will host a free session led by doctors to talk about hand and upper extremity consultations.<\/span><\/p>\n The Pen Bay pilot reports the workshop is designed for anyone whose work or hobbies involve frequent hand and arm use to make small changes for a meaningful difference in long-term hand and arm health.<\/span><\/p>\n
