Massive changes could make its way to Bangor Mall under new ownership<\/b><\/p>\n

An update to the future of the Bangor Mall.<\/span><\/p>\n

A local investor signed an agreement to buy the property from Namdar Realty group and has a few ideas of what can be done at the location.<\/span><\/p>\n

WABI news reports Mike Cole, who leads the group Bangor Marketplace and Residences LLC would like to turn the location into a community hub.<\/span><\/p>\n

This means the possibility of 200-plus condos, assisted living, doctor’s offices, stores and other retail chains.<\/span><\/p>\n

WABI reports city officials met with the group Monday to learn more about the proposal leaving the deal\u00a0 in a 60-day due diligence period.<\/span><\/p>\n

$2.5 million project planned to upgrade trail in Ellsworth<\/b><\/p>\n

A multi-use trail in Ellsworth could get an update as the state\u2019s transportation department plans to invest $2.5 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Down East Sunrise Trail extends from the city\u2019s High Street corridor to Perry and construction plans could extend the popular trail.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bangor Daily News reports that the extension would run parallel to State Street between Lakes Lane and Birch Avenue.<\/span><\/p>\n

Construction of the connection would start in Summer 2028.<\/span><\/p>\n

Downtown District of Ellsworth designated on National Register of Historic Places<\/b><\/p>\n

The Heart of Ellsworth announced the downtown district of Ellsworth has been designated on the National Register of Historic Places!<\/span><\/p>\n

Officials say this designation is a non-regulatory designation that offers historic tax credits for building owners, supports preservation and building improvements governed by city ordinances.<\/span><\/p>\n

This honor will position Ellsworth for continued economic and cultural growth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Castine Historical Society prepares for Summer months with a booming task<\/b><\/p>\n

In the process of curating a special exhibit for an iconic town landmark, officials from the Castine Historical Society made a rather explosive discovery.<\/span><\/p>\n

The town is looking to open up the Dyce Head Lighthouse more frequently this summer.<\/span><\/p>\n

WABI news reports during the process of cleaning out the space, they discovered 13 mortar shells believed to date back to the War of 1812.<\/span><\/p>\n

Historical society officials worked with members of the State Police Bomb Squad to investigate and test the shells.<\/span><\/p>\n

Executive Director Kate McMahon says the shells that were determined to be inert were returned to the lighthouse to serve as part of their upcoming exhibit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Earth Day Flags fly across Ellsworth<\/b><\/p>\n

As part of a community art effort, the city\u2019s park and recreation department collaborated with Ellsworth schools to show a little love to mother Earth.<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s why you may see some flags around the area.<\/span><\/p>\n

Art students from Ellsworth High and Middle schools designed and painted a series of Earth Day flags expressing sustainability, conservation and care for the planet.<\/span><\/p>\n

The city says the flags will fly high through May 1 serving as a reminder of what makes Ellsworth so special.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ellsworth Moose Lodge will host multiple community events Easter Weekend<\/b><\/p>\n

On Saturday, leaders at the Ellsworth Moose Lodge are hosting a community trail clean-up on the Ellsworth Rail Trail.<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s starting at noon and residents interested in volunteering can help spruce up the popular trail that connects downtown Ellsworth to Ellsworth Falls.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then at 1 p.m. Saturday, community members are invited to join them at Knowlton Park for an Easter Egg Hunt to remember featuring 3,000 eggs and a special prize.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before all of that, they\u2019re helping a local veteran in the community by doing a deck demolition.<\/span><\/p>\n

The president of the Ellsworth Moose Lodge, Anthony Wyman, spoke on the importance of these efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to remove all of that, the decking, we\u2019re going to remove all the debris and then on the 11th we\u2019ll actually be going back to do an actual replacement of that deck to finish off the project but it’s been great just working with the city of Ellsworth and then you know just being involved in the community as a whole,\u201d said Wyman.<\/span><\/p>\n
