One killed, another in serious condition after fire in Readfield<\/b><\/p>\n
Maine State Police say a 75-year-old woman died after a fire in Readfield on Friday night.<\/span><\/p>\n The Readfield Fire Department responded to a house fire on Plains Road at around 9:45 p.m..<\/span><\/p>\n Police say 74-year-old Jerrold Wentworth escaped the home from the second-floor window and told firefighters his wife Carolyn Wentworth was still inside.<\/span><\/p>\n Due to heavy fire conditions firefighters were unable to attempt a rescue.<\/span><\/p>\n Police say the body of the deceased was taken to the medical examiner for positive identification and determination of cause of death.<\/span><\/p>\n The investigation is ongoing.<\/span><\/p>\n Bar Harbor and Mount Desert police respond to hoax threat<\/b><\/p>\n After receiving a panic alarm and call Friday morning, Bar Harbor and Mount Desert police responded to MDI High school for a hoax threat.<\/span><\/p>\n Police say the call stated a man was there with a weapon in the parking lot threatening harm inside the school placing the school in lockdown.<\/span><\/p>\n Police say the threat sounded serious enough that law enforcement searched the entire building and grounds.<\/span><\/p>\n Police tell Star 97.7 they determined the phone number used was recently used for other false reports around the country.<\/span><\/p>\n Maine farmers call on Hannaford to buy more Maine-grown products<\/b><\/p>\n After leaders at Hannaford Supermarkets highlighted a shortage of carrots ahead of Easter, the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association issued a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n MOFGA is calling on Hannaford Supermarkets to buy more Maine-grown products and prioritize local contracts to reflect the real cost of local production.<\/span><\/p>\n A spokesperson for Hannaford told WMTW that they have invited MOFGA to meet with them and identify ways to work together and support Maine farmers and producers.<\/span><\/p>\n The spokesperson said Hannaford does source carrots from at least three Maine farms.<\/span><\/p>\n
