2026 Primary Election recap<\/strong><\/p>\n

Graham Platner won the Maine democratic primary for the U.S. senate on Tuesday, setting up a high-stakes race against Republican Sen. Susan Collins.<\/span><\/p>\n

Platner picked up 72% of the votes, while Gov. Janet Mills, who suspended her campaign but remained on the ballot, got 20 percent.<\/span><\/p>\n

WABI news reports Platner addressed supporters in Blue Hill following confirmation of his victory saying he will stand up for Maine and stand against billionaires and greedy corporations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maine is home to a key U.S. senate race that could determine whether republicans maintain their majority in the chamber.<\/span><\/p>\n

Incumbent Sen. Susan Collins is seeking her sixth term in the senate and she was uncontested in the republican primary.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two other key battles– the democratic and republican race for governor will be decided on ranked choice voting after none of the candidates secured the required 50 percent of the votes.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the democratic race, Nirav Shah secured the most with 27 percent followed by Hannah Pingree 23 percent, and Troy Jackson and Shenna Bellows both with 21 percent.<\/span><\/p>\n

The GOP race also failed to produce a clear winner.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bobby Charles picked up most of the votes with 38 percent, while Jonathan Bush and Benjamin Midgley both got 20.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Garrett Mason was a distant fourth with 11 percent.<\/span><\/p>\n

The race for the democratic nominee in Maine’s 2nd district\u00a0 will also be decided by ranked choice voting<\/span><\/p>\n

Democrats were choosing between former Maine secretary of state Matt Dunlap, state Sen. Joe Baldacci, former U.S. senate candidate Jordan Wood and social worker Paige Loud.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Republicans’ presumptive nominee is former Gov. Paul LePage.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the U.S. house – District 1, Ronald Russell with 54 percent of the vote has secured the nomination for the Republican ticket.<\/span><\/p>\n

He’ll face incumbent Chellie Pingree in November. <\/span><\/p>\n

RV campground proposed for Ellsworth<\/b><\/p>\n

A 28-site RV campground has been proposed for Ellsworth.<\/span><\/p>\n

A developer has submitted materials for the campground on Bayside Road.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ellsworth American says the development would be built on a 52-acre lot accommodating RV sites with water, electricity and sewer connections.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the publication reports that according to city ordinance the city planner needs to send a notice to property owners within 500 feet of the applicant\u2019s property about planning board meetings discussing the site.<\/span><\/p>\n

There were only 17 sent.<\/span><\/p>\n

The paper reports the application is likely to be discussed at a meeting next month.<\/span><\/p>\n
