{"id":1617,"date":"2026-06-17T05:26:07","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T09:26:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/star977fm.com\/?p=1617"},"modified":"2026-06-17T05:26:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T09:26:07","slug":"local-news-june-17-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/star977fm.com\/index.php\/2026\/06\/17\/local-news-june-17-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Local News &#8211; June 17, 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Eagle Point Energy Fire<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(Orrington) \u2013 A major fire last night brought at least 10-departments to the Eagle Point Energy Center in Orrington.\u00a0 The facility, formerly owned by the Penobscot Energy Recovery Company, was working to become operational as a trash to energy incinerator again after it closed down a few years ago.\u00a0 Firefighters responded to the call at about 9-thirty last night, and media posts showed flames and smoke coming from what appears to be the main boiler building.\u00a0 Eagle Point and the remains of PERC are embroiled in a lawsuit over contracts with dozens of municipalities who had sent their trash to incinerator for decades but are currently paying for it to be landfilled in Old Town.\u00a0 A fire in 2024 badly damaged the facility.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ranked Choice Contest Counting Continues<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Augusta) \u2013 We may know by the end of today who triumphed in the major party primaries to get onto the November ballot for governor and 2<sup>nd<\/sup> District Congress.\u00a0 The Secretary of State\u2019s office has nearly finished processing the electronic records and scanning ballots in order to compile the ranked choice outcome.\u00a0 WABI-TV reports officials may release the results today.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hancock Drug Bust<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(Augusta) \u2013 Drug agents have charged three Downeast men with crimes after a bust in Hancock earlier this month.\u00a0 Arrested at the 221-Franklin Road bust were 29-year old Jonathan Sprague of Milbridge and 33-year old Matthew Crabtree of Ellsworth.\u00a0 The property owner, 60-year old John Crawford of Hancock was captured Monday night.\u00a0 He\u2019s charged with trafficking cocaine and fentanyl.\u00a0 The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency reports to Star 97.7 agents seized 225 grams of crack cocaine and 79 grams of fentanyl, 12 grams of methamphetamine and four firearms.\u00a0 Agents said the drugs have a street value of $30-thousand dollars.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cutler Released<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(Machias) \u2013 A Washington County judge has ordered former Gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler released from jail after his arrest on June 11<sup>th<\/sup> for allegedly violation probation on possessing child sex abuse materials.\u00a0 The Bangor Daily News reports Cutler was jailed for the 6<sup>th<\/sup> time after he refused to sign a probation treatment plan that was contrary to a specific court order. Cutler\u2019s attorney said his client was correct in not signing an order from a treatment provider.\u00a0 A hearing is continued to August to give the state time to review Cutler\u2019s devices for child porn.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Log Cabin Restaurant may become a tavern<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Bar Harbor) \u2013 The building that housed the former Log Cabin Restaurant in Bar Harbor may reopen as a tavern.
