Ranked runoff reveals Democratic and Republican nominees for Governor\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
In case you missed it, the Democratic and Republican nominees for governor and the Democratic nominee for Maine\u2019s 2nd Congressional District have been decided.<\/span><\/p>\n No candidate won the majority of votes on primary day, so the races went to a ranked runoff.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n WABI news reports Hannah Pingree won the Democratic nomination with 111,750 votes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Nirav Shah, who received the most first-choice votes, trailed Pingree in the final round with 86,950 votes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Bobby Charles won the Republican nomination with 59,873 votes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ben Midgley placed second with 39,499 votes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Matt Dunlap won the Democratic nomination for U.S. House in the 2nd Congressional District with 35,924 votes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Joe Baldacci, who received the most first-choice votes placed second with 32,555 votes\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/www.wabi.tv\/2026\/06\/18\/maine-primary-election-results-expected-thursday-night\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Former Ellsworth woman sentenced for methamphetamine conviction<\/b><\/p>\n A former Ellsworth woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for distributing methamphetamine.<\/span><\/p>\n On June 17, a U.S. District Judge sentenced 33-year-old Jenna Garniss to prison followed by three years of supervised release.<\/span><\/p>\n The Ellsworth American reports Garniss pleaded guilty on June 27, 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n Court records show after a co-conspirator shipped pounds of methamphetamine to Hancock County from California, Garniss and others in the Ellsworth area distributed the drug.<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/www.ellsworthamerican.com\/news\/cops\/feds-sentence-ellsworth-methamphetamine-distributor-to-5-years-in-prison\/article_5ad24703-62ba-4e17-8a93-e9647351d134.html<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Fisherman dies after incident near Vinalhaven<\/b><\/p>\n According to the Maine Marine Patrol, a fisherman has died after an incident near Vinalhaven and two members of his crew are in custody.<\/span><\/p>\n A call was made at around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday reporting a crew member from the fishing vessel Long Faces fell overboard.<\/span><\/p>\n WABI news reports 57-year-old Marshal Ames of North Haven was pulled ashore by a good samaritan who performed life-saving measures; however he was pronounced dead on the island by first responders.<\/span><\/p>\n Now, the vessel\u2019s captain, 39-year-old Geoffrey Barrett of North Haven has been charged with assault following an altercation with Marine Patrol officers.<\/span><\/p>\n WABI news reports 27-year-old Theodore Lane of North Haven is charged with assault and disorderly conduct and both men were taken to Knox County Jail.<\/span><\/p>\n The investigation remains ongoing.<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/www.wabi.tv\/2026\/06\/19\/body-recovered-off-vinalhaven-two-people-custody\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Ellsworth officials remind residents & visitors of fire safety\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n The City of Ellsworth issued a reminder for residents and visitors alike regarding fire safety.<\/span><\/p>\n City leaders are encouraging those who are out enjoying the best parts of a Maine summer to take extra time to ensure a fire is out.<\/span><\/p>\n Whether it\u2019s a backyard fire pit or you\u2019re relaxing at a campsite, remember to pour water on the fire, stir the ashes, embers and wood, pour more water and stir again.<\/span><\/p>\n You should repeat this until no heat, smoke, steam or glowing remaining embers are there.<\/span><\/p>\n To check out that list, follow the link below.<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/www.ellsworthmaine.gov\/before-you-walk-away-put-it-all-the-way-out\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Ellsworth as Muse celebrates the city<\/b><\/p>\n The Courthouse Gallery Fine Art has invited residents to experience Ellsworth As Muse since May 15 to celebrate the people, places, history and character of Ellsworth.<\/span><\/p>\n The exhibition features work by artists who\u2019ve explored different layers of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n On Wednesday, June 24 from 5-7 p.m. at the Courthouse Gallery Fine Art, city leaders encourage you to explore the exhibition as the gallery celebrates 20 years.<\/span><\/p>\n
