{"id":1670,"date":"2026-07-01T05:30:18","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T09:30:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/star977fm.com\/?p=1670"},"modified":"2026-06-30T18:06:40","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T22:06:40","slug":"07-01-26-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/star977fm.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/01\/07-01-26-news\/","title":{"rendered":"07-01-26 News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Hancock County Sheriff\u2019s office investigating car vs. pedestrian<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Hancock County Sheriff\u2019s office says they\u2019re conducting an investigation into a car vs. pedestrian that happened on Monday night in Sedgwick.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">First responders went to the scene and initially saw a pedestrian had been hit by a car.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The person was transported to a local medical facility for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Deputies say the investigation remains active and they can\u2019t confirm the nature of the case at this time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Petition recalling five city councilors in Ellsworth fails<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Friday, June 26, a petition organized to recall five Ellsworth City Councilors were submitted by the deadline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, the required threshold of signatures was not met.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Ellsworth American reports the recall committee needed signatures from no\u00a0 less than 20 percent of registered voters in the city within 30 days; however city manager Charlie Pearce says there weren\u2019t enough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Now the publication reports the city has 20 days to analyze whether each petition was properly signed as clerks are reviewing submissions with legal counsel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This after the effort was launched in May following allegations of the councilors violating city law, discriminating against a business license applicant and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ellsworthamerican.com\/news\/politics\/group-trying-to-recall-five-city-councilors-fails-to-reach-signature-threshold\/article_fe37cb58-b0d5-47e5-ac0b-955a3a91c578.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/www.ellsworthamerican.com\/news\/politics\/group-trying-to-recall-five-city-councilors-fails-to-reach-signature-threshold\/article_fe37cb58-b0d5-47e5-ac0b-955a3a91c578.html<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>New approach to summer food trucks slots at Harbor Park<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Harbor Park, owned by the city of Ellsworth is about to enter its peak season with locals and visitors alike.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The City of Ellsworth heard from the harbor commission on different ways to offer weekly food vendors slots after concession services were not confirmed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Bangor Daily news reports there are still zero bids, so they\u2019re seeking approval from the city council to allow up to two food vendors the option to rent a waterfront space for $100 per week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This could begin as soon as possible providing visitors with a variety of options.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bangordailynews.com\/2026\/06\/30\/hancock\/hancock-government\/ellsworth-no-bids-food-truck-harbor-park-joam40zk0w\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/www.bangordailynews.com\/2026\/06\/30\/hancock\/hancock-government\/ellsworth-no-bids-food-truck-harbor-park-joam40zk0w\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Red cross urges Mainers to be aware of firework safety<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many safety reminders will be heard throughout the week especially around firework safety.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Red Cross are urging residents to celebrate safely and understand the serious risks of fireworks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Officials say thousands of people are injured due to handling fireworks incorrectly leading to burns, serious injuries, structure fires and in some cases death.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They also urge residents to protect your family by installing and testing smoke alarms on every level of your home, create and practice a home fire escape plan, and keep basic fire aid supplies on hand to treat minor burns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fireworks Safety Tips\u00a0The Red Cross recommends attending public fireworks displays whenever possible.
