{"id":1678,"date":"2026-07-02T05:30:45","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T09:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/star977fm.com\/?p=1678"},"modified":"2026-07-01T12:59:58","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T16:59:58","slug":"07-02-26-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/star977fm.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/02\/07-02-26-news\/","title":{"rendered":"07-02-26 News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Chemical odor from Hampton Inn alerts first responders<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Tuesday, the Ellsworth fire department along with other public safety partners responded to a chemical odor at the Hampton Inn at 4 Downeast Highway.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">First responders say they identified the localized chemical reaction which involved pool maintenance products in the hotel\u2019s pool room.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fire crews ventilated the area safely to ensure the building was safe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One person was transported to a local medical facility for evaluation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Man charged in Hancock county crash that killed 5-year-old<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Following a deadly crash that killed a five-year-old boy, an Indiana man has been arrested and charged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Monday, Maine State Police say they arrested 33-year-old Dion Campbell of Elkhart, Indiana.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Police say he\u2019s been transported to Hancock County Jail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On June 25, Campbell crashed on Route 9 and 193 where a five-year-old was declared dead at the scene and Campbell and a 10-month-old girl were transported to a hospital for non life threatening injuries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, driving to endanger, criminal OUI and manslaughter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Northern Light Blue Hill hospital will host fundraiser for emergency department<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Northern Light Blue Hill hospital hosts an event called Starlight Evening.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The event is set to take place on Friday, July 24.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The focus of the event will support the hospital&#8217;s emergency department ensuring community members have access to a well-equipped department delivering 24\/7 services according to the Ellsworth American.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There will also be a silent and live auction with lovely items like a Cliff House getaway and Red Sox tickets included.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To book your spot for the event, follow the link below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ellsworthamerican.com\/news\/health\/northern-light-blue-hill-hospital-s-starlight-evening-to-raise-funds-for-emergency-department\/article_90195543-1845-4b84-a094-a3f346d0d973.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/www.ellsworthamerican.com\/news\/health\/northern-light-blue-hill-hospital-s-starlight-evening-to-raise-funds-for-emergency-department\/article_90195543-1845-4b84-a094-a3f346d0d973.html<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Scallop meeting during Whiting Town Hall<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Wednesday, July 15 an in-person scallop meeting will take place at the Whiting Town Office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The focus will be the Cobscook Bay scallop fishery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Organizers say amongst that, discussions will surround future research and management ideas, so they encourage scallop harvesters that operate within the Cobscook Bay area to attend and share their ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/accounts\/MEDMR\/bulletins\/41e5841\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/accounts\/MEDMR\/bulletins\/41e5841<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Bar Harbor Bank &amp; Trust awards 15 high school graduates<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Bar Harbor Bank and Trust awarded 15 high school graduates for the 2026 career and technical education scholarship!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to graduates who participate in a technical career program in high school and plan to attend a college or technical school following graduation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Recipients will have the chance to apply for an additional $1,000 next year for a second year of college or technical school .<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There were more than a few locals who are among the recipients so congratulations to you all!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Local list of recipients:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>James Brasted<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of Jonesport, Maine, is a graduate of Jonesport-Beals High School and attended the Coastal Washington County Institute of Technology.
