Ellsworth city councilor recall effort officially insufficient<\/b><\/p>\n
On Monday, City of Ellsworth officials announced that the recall petition of five city councilors is officially insufficient.<\/span><\/p>\n This after residents allege five councilors violated city law, have conflict of interest and more.<\/span><\/p>\n The Ellsworth American reports after organizers of the effort were granted an extension to get the right amount of signatures, the requirement of 1,279 signatures was not met.<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/www.ellsworthamerican.com\/news\/politics\/recall-petitions-officially-declared-insufficient-by-city\/article_a83595c0-2932-44a0-971a-aee68b50da9c.html<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Mattawamkeag man accused of hitting family held on $10K bail<\/b><\/p>\n During the popular Loonfest in Lincoln on Saturday a family of four were struck by a vehicle as they were walking on a sidewalk.<\/span><\/p>\n Authorities say 57-year-old Carl Hartley was the driver of the car, failed to stop and struck a mother, father and their two young children.<\/span><\/p>\n WABI news talked with the family as they\u2019re recovering.<\/span><\/p>\n The mother was pinned under the truck and later flown to a hospital in Bangor, the father was able to free himself from under the car and has broken ribs.<\/span><\/p>\n The youngest, a three month old was not seriously injured however the five-year-old suffered a laceration to her liver.<\/span><\/p>\n Hartley appeared in court on Monday and is being held on $10K cash bail.<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/www.wabi.tv\/2026\/07\/20\/man-accused-oui-after-hitting-family-lincoln-held-10000-bail\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Bucksport fighting for vacant lot after failed expectations<\/b><\/p>\n After the Bucksport town council agreed to sell a parcel of land in 2023 in hopes of creating more commercial spaces, they\u2019re looking to take it back after nothing has been done.<\/span><\/p>\n The vacant lot is a sore thumb along Main Street.<\/span><\/p>\n The Bangor Daily news reports the developer did not follow through on the agreement of building a mixed-use development in exchange for a $1 purchase price.<\/span><\/p>\n The publication states this also puts a halt to other plans Bucksport officials had in mind such as building more housing.<\/span><\/p>\n Now, things could ramp up as the BDN reports the developer has not responded to multiple letters from the town.<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/www.bangordailynews.com\/2026\/07\/20\/hancock\/hancock-government\/bucksport-wants-vacant-downtown-lot-back-joam40zk0w\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Search launched by family of missing New Sweden teen<\/b><\/p>\n Stefanie Damron, a missing teen from New Sweden, disappeared on Sept. 23, 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n Her family launched a public ground search this Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n WAGM reports volunteers are asked to meet at the ball field behind Northstar Variety in New Sweden at 8 a.m. and the search will start at nine.<\/span><\/p>\n A reward of up to $15,000 is being offered for information leading to her safe return.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/www.wabi.tv\/2026\/07\/21\/damron-family-organizing-public-search-missing-new-sweden-teen\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n City of Ellsworth looking to fulfill positions ahead of election<\/b><\/p>\n The City of Ellsworth put out an announcement to notify residents that they\u2019re looking to fill multiple positions ahead of the election this year.<\/span><\/p>\n Seats they\u2019re looking to fill involve two seats on the city council, four seats on the Ellsworth Public Library Board of Trustees and two seats on the Ellsworth School board.<\/span><\/p>\n If you\u2019re interested in serving the community, the nomination papers will be available at City Hall starting Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/www.ellsworthmaine.gov\/interested-in-serving-your-community-nomination-papers-available-this-thursday-july-23-2026\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n New restaurant ready for business in Hancock County<\/b><\/p>\n The Astro is the newest restaurant on the block in Brooklin!<\/span><\/p>\n The dine-in or take out restaurant has officially opened at their 1 Bay Road location.<\/span><\/p>\n WABI news reports the owner says local sourcing for the restaurant is priority as customers will enjoy ice cream made with Maine dairy.<\/span><\/p>\n Visitors can also expect Maine-made sausages, curly fried and tostadas.<\/span><\/p>\n The owner has a culinary background and Maine roots and he\u2019s looking forward to bringing tasty eats back home.<\/span><\/p>\n For more on their hours follow the link below.<\/span><\/p>\n
