18-year-old arrested for connection to Belfast house fire<\/b><\/p>\n
The Fire Marshal\u2019s office says they\u2019ve arrested an 18-year-old man for arson in connection to a house fire on City Point Road.<\/span><\/p>\n Christopher Gordon lives at the home with other family members and several pets.<\/span><\/p>\n Authorities say the fire took place at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and no injuries were reported.<\/span><\/p>\n Investigators believe the fire started in the basement and caused minor damage.<\/span><\/p>\n Authorities say Gordon was free on conditions of release from a separate incident at the time of his arrest.<\/span><\/p>\n He is being held without bail at Waldo County Jail.<\/span><\/p>\n Significant amount of meth retrieved during arrest in Enfield<\/b><\/p>\n On Tuesday night, the Penobscot County sheriff\u2019s office seized a significant amount of meth during an arrest in Enfield.<\/span><\/p>\n A deputy noticed a man at the Dollar General with three active arrest warrants.<\/span><\/p>\n Deputies say 45-year-old Alton Whitney of Enfield was wanted for three counts of felony theft and during the arrest they found nearly 70 grams of meth.<\/span><\/p>\n Additional drugs were found and Whitney is facing numerous drug related charges including some felonies.<\/span><\/p>\n He\u2019s being held at Penobscot County Jail.<\/span><\/p>\n Two arrested after months-long drug investigation<\/b><\/p>\n After police searched two homes in Washington County, two people were arrested.<\/span><\/p>\n The Maine DEA says 47-year-old Matthew Small of Hancock and 40-year-old Marissa Oullette of Fort Kent have been taken into custody.<\/span><\/p>\n Officials searched a home in Harrington and Cherryfield finding cocaine, and $2,400 in suspected drug money.<\/span><\/p>\n They were both taken to Washington County Jail and more arrests are expected.<\/span><\/p>\n Historic Bar Harbor library opens new modernized wing<\/b><\/p>\n After beginning work to modernize the building, the Jesup Memorial Library has unveiled its new wing.<\/span><\/p>\n The effort was the library\u2019s first major expansion since it opened in 1911.<\/span><\/p>\n The Bangor Daily news reports that the wing included a disability-accessible bathroom and public electrical outlets.<\/span><\/p>\n The publication reports the $10.7 million project was aimed to improve the evolving needs of the library’s frequent visitors and seasonal residents while holding onto the beauty of the historic building.<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/www.bangordailynews.com\/2026\/07\/30\/hancock\/hancock-culture\/bar-harbor-public-library-new-wing-joam40zk0w\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Healthy Acadia Overdose Awareness Day Event<\/b><\/p>\n In exactly a month, Healthy Acadia invites you to join them for an event.<\/span><\/p>\n On August 31 at Knowlton Park, they will host their \u2018Overdose Awareness Day\u2019 event.<\/span><\/p>\n It\u2019ll be a space to honor those who we\u2019ve lost and support families and communities impacted.<\/span><\/p>\n Organizers say they’ll remember the 390 Mainers who died from overdose in 2025 through a special butterfly tribute.<\/span><\/p>\n The event is free and also includes a community memory board.<\/span><\/p>\n Take a guided hike through Branch Lake Public Forest<\/b><\/p>\n On August 11, the City of Ellsworth\u2019s Urban Forestry assistant will host a guided hike at Branch Lake Public Forest!<\/span><\/p>\n From 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. you can enjoy a 2.5 mile hike rating at moderate difficulty.<\/span><\/p>\n Hikers are encouraged to bring comfortable shoes and a bottle of water.<\/span><\/p>\n Participants will meet in the parking lot.<\/span><\/p>\n If you\u2019re interested in attending, follow the link below to send an email to notify your guide.<\/span><\/p>\n
