{"id":690,"date":"2025-10-13T06:31:53","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T10:31:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/star977fm.com\/?p=690"},"modified":"2025-10-13T06:31:57","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T10:31:57","slug":"10-13-25-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/star977fm.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/13\/10-13-25-news\/","title":{"rendered":"10-13-25 News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>It appears Governor J<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">anet<\/span>\u00a0Mills will be challenging current Maine Senator Susan\u00a0C<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">ollins<\/span>\u00a0for her seat in the midterm elections.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Multiple media reports say\u00a0Mills is tentatively expected to announce her candidacy on Tuesday, and was the top pick of national democrats to challenge C<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">ollins<\/span>, who has held her seat since 1997.<\/p>\n<p>Mills would be throwing her hat in the ring amidst other democrats, including oyster farmer Graham P<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">latner<\/span>, who has been drawing significant crowds at recent events.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are hoping to retake the majority in the U.S. Senate, but would need to gain 4 seats to do so.<\/p>\n<p><b>Meet the Candidates Night:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>With the N<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">ovember<\/span>\u00a0elections just weeks away, voters looking to learn more about those running for the E<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">llsworth<\/span>\u00a0City Council can do so on Tuesday October 14th at a M<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">eet<\/span>\u00a0the C<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">andidates<\/span>\u00a0N<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">ight<\/span>\u00a0at the Grand Theatre in E<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">llsworth<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>All seven candidates who are vying for one of the three positions on the E<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">llsworth<\/span>\u00a0City Council are invited to attend in order to share more about themselves, where they stand on the issues and to answer voters questions.<\/p>\n<p>The event gets underway at 6:30pm on Tuesday.\u00a0Voters who can&#8217;t make it in person are invited to watch it online on the H<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">eart<\/span>\u00a0of Ellsworth&#8217;s Y<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">outube<\/span>\u00a0channel.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"v1moz-txt-link-freetext\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heartofellsworth.org\/meet-the-candidates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.heartofellsworth.org\/meet-the-candidates<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>October is domestic violence awareness month. The partners for peace organization has been around for more than 50 years. Casey\u00a0<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">faulkingham<\/span>, the director of development and engagement for the organization says it&#8217;s important that domestic violence victims know there are services available to help them get out of their dangerous situations.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">Faulkingham<\/span>\u00a0says partners for peace can provide a 24-hour help line, transitional housing, child advocacy, pet-friendly emergency shelters, legal advocacy, and more to anyone in P<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">enobscot<\/span>\u00a0and P<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">iscataquis<\/span>\u00a0counties experiencing domestic violence.<\/p>\n<p>Partners for peace has several events planned throughout the month. Baker and\u00a0<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">Parlatore<\/span>\u00a0appeared in court last week, where bail was set at 15-thousand dollars each.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"v1moz-txt-link-freetext\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wabi.tv\/2025\/10\/10\/two-men-facing-charges-following-overdose-death-tremont\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.wabi.tv\/2025\/10\/10\/two-men-facing-charges-following-overdose-death-tremont\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>As the government shutdown continues, funding for Maine airports could continue to be affected.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to the Bangor\u00a0Daily News,\u00a0passenger flights at Presque Isle International\u00a0Airport, Augusta State Airport, Hancock\u00a0County-Bar Harbor Airport and Knox County\u00a0Regional Airport in Owls Head are supported by the federal Essential Air Service program, which provides federal subsidies to air carriers to serve smaller areas.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Transportation announced last week that it had secured $41 million to keep the program running through early November,<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">BDN<\/span>\u00a0reports that\u00a0no airport in the country benefits from more\u00a0<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">EAS<\/span>\u00a0funding than Presque Isle International,\u00a0according to U.S. DOT\u00a0data.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"v1moz-txt-link-freetext\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bangordailynews.com\/2025\/10\/11\/aroostook\/aroostook-culture\/government-shutdown-maine-small-airports-joam40zk0w\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.bangordailynews.com\/2025\/10\/11\/aroostook\/aroostook-culture\/government-shutdown-maine-small-airports-joam40zk0w\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nearly 75 Maine veterans spent the weekend in Washington, D.C. thanks to Honor Flight Maine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<span class=\"v1nanospell-typo\">WABI<\/span>, Honor Flight Maine took Korean and Vietnam War veterans to Washington, D.C. to tour the memorials and monuments built in their honor. And Honor Flight pays for all the expenses.<\/p>\n<p>The veterans returned to Bangor International Airport on Sunday, however the ceremony was closed to the public due to the space limitations caused by the ongoing government\u00a0shutdown.
