Shooting reported in town of Knox<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maine State Police say there has been a shooting in the town of Knox in Waldo County Thursday according to WABI news.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened around 4:25 p.m. on Bailey Road, according to police.<\/p>\n

Authorities said the incident appears to be isolated.<\/p>\n

MDI Hotel owner in hot seat as contractors file $14M in liens<\/strong><\/p>\n

After renovating the Asticou Hotel on Mount Desert Island, the owner of the property has been accused of cheating out $14 million in materials and services according to the Bangor Daily News.<\/p>\n

The paper says 11 contractors from seven counties across the state have filed 13 liens against Asticou Hospitality LLC.<\/p>\n

The BDN says liens include unpaid work and materials.<\/p>\n

After reopening this past summer, the publication says the hotel was closed for almost two years for a major renovation.<\/p>\n

\u2018Do Not Eat\u2019 advisory expands<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife expanded a “Do Not Eat” wildlife consumption advisory.<\/p>\n

It covers deer and turkeys harvested in parts of central Maine.<\/p>\n

The new map now covers; Albion, Fairfield, Freedom, Knox, Skowhegan, Thorndike, Unity, and Unity Township.<\/p>\n

State officials said wildlife in those communities have tested positive for high levels of PFAS.<\/p>\n

Testing began in the greater Fairfield area back in 2021 when the first advisory was issued.<\/p>\n

It has since expanded to three other areas over the last couple of years.<\/p>\n

If you have questions about possible health effects from eating deer harvested in the advisory area, you can call the Maine CDC at 287-4311.<\/p>\n

Waldo county agency extending services Down East<\/strong><\/p>\n

Waldo Community Action Partners<\/a> will offer rural public transportation to Hancock and Washington counties according to the Bangor Daily News.<\/p>\n

Those who lack reliable transport can call Waldo Community Action partners about the service Monday through Friday from 7:30AM to 4PM.<\/p>\n

The paper says those who had been using Downeast Community Partners services will be contacted by the program.<\/p>\n

Traffic alert in Ellsworth<\/strong><\/p>\n

The city of Ellsworth announced highway crews will be working on State Street by the courthouse Friday, Oct. 24, however both travel lanes will be open.<\/p>\n

They tell Star 97.7 that drivers should use caution passing through the work zone.<\/p>\n

Another traffic alert to keep in mind is the work being done on Tuesday, Oct. 28 as highway crews work on Oak Street.<\/p>\n

Oak Street will be down to one lane alternative traffic between Davis and Park Street.<\/p>\n

Lastly, on Nov. 3 & 4, the Ellsworth Parks and Recreation crew will be planting trees along Foster and Washington Street.<\/p>\n

Rotary Club of Ellsworth hosting Food Drive for Loaves and Fishes food pantry<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Rotary Club of Ellsworth tells Star 97.7 that they will be conducting their annual food drive for the Loaves and Fishes food pantry and they need your help.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Nov. 15 from 9AM to 2PM at the Ellsworth Hannaford they will accept food or monetary donations to help those in need in Hancock County.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re adding a challenge called \u2018The Ton of Turkey Challenge\u2019 where rotarians and community members donate as many turkeys as they can to the pantry.<\/p>\n

Their goal is 134 turkeys!<\/p>\n

You can donate at the Loaves and Fishes food pantry during operating hours which is Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9AM to 12:30PM or 4PM-6PM on Wednesdays.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re out of town, you can donate $20 which will count as a turkey.<\/p>\n

That can be mailed to the Rotary Club\u2019s address at PO Box 741, Ellsworth.<\/p>\n

Stonington Opera House hosting board game & movie night on Halloween<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Stonington Opera House will host a Clue board game and movie night in celebration of the film\u2019s 40th anniversary on Halloween.<\/p>\n

The Ellsworth American reports starting at 5PM, the lobby will open for local \u201cdetectives\u201d to arrive and play a round of the Hasbro game that inspired the film Clue.<\/p>\n

Guests are also welcome to bring their own version of the game.<\/p>\n

Flatbread pizzas, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase from the concession stand.<\/p>\n

The board game segment of the evening is free and is an optional addition to the film screening.<\/p>\n

The screening of the 1985 film, \u201cClue,\u201d will begin at 7PM.<\/p>\n
