{"id":759,"date":"2025-10-30T05:30:47","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T09:30:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/star977fm.com\/?p=759"},"modified":"2025-10-29T15:29:54","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T19:29:54","slug":"10-30-2025-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/star977fm.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/30\/10-30-2025-news\/","title":{"rendered":"10-30-2025 News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Traffic alert in Ellsworth<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A quick reminder that the Maine DOT says the south bound lane of 172 at the Bridge Hill Intersection project will be closed all day Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Officials do not anticipate the need for a lane closure on Halloween but we will continue to update you if that changes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Man found dead in Hancock County<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A 70-year-old Kennebunk man was found dead in northern Hancock County, according to Maine State Police.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">State police said David Bridges was found in a bog off a road near Stud Mill Road in Township 41.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">State Police said Bridges appeared to have been fur trapping in the area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">His death does not appear to be suspicious, according to authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Medical Examiner in Augusta will determine Bridges\u2019 cause of death.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Maine Community Foundation offering scholarships for adult learners<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Adults who desire to return to school could gain support from the Maine Community Foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eligible scholarship recipients can receive a one or two-year certificate or a four-year degree at the end of the program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Recipients must meet the following criteria:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Be over the age of 25<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Work full time while enrolled in school<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Have dependents \/ be financially independent<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Have not received a standard high school diploma or delayed college enrollment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The application deadline is Nov. 15.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For more information on the guidelines and application, follow the link below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mainecf.org\/find-a-scholarship\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/www.mainecf.org\/find-a-scholarship\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Happenings in November at Versant Power Astronomy Center<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There\u2019s always something unique happening at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/astro.umaine.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Versant Power Astronomy Center and Jordan Planetarium<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at the University of Maine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The experiences ranging from space-based birthday parties, to interactive public events and performances gives attendees a chance to explore the universe in their own way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Star 97.7 talked with the director, Shawn Laatsch about what you can expect in November.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe have sort of a split month,\u201d said Laatsch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe first two weekends Nov. 7, 8 and 14, 15 we actually have a special theatrical play called Cosmogenesis: The Story of Us and this is a live theater performance in the planetarium, actually our third we\u2019ve done and this is a special program. Basically, it\u2019s coming in from Boulder, Colorado from the University of Colorado out there.
