WABI has new details about a fire that sent two people to the hospital and destroyed two buildings in Van Buren.<\/span><\/p>\n According to the Fire Marshal’s Office, officials were called to a home on Main Street just before 11:30 Saturday night.<\/span><\/p>\n Officials say the owner of the home discovered a fire involving their pellet stove.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Authorities say the fire destroyed the home as well as a building right next to the house.<\/span><\/p>\n Officials say the homeowner was taken to the hospital because of smoke inhalation.<\/span><\/p>\n They also say a firefighter was also taken to the hospital after slipping on ice during the response.<\/span><\/p>\n The cause of the fire is still under investigation but officials say the cause likely involves the pellet stove.<\/span><\/p>\n Affordable housing will soon be available in Vinalhaven<\/b><\/p>\n New, affordable housing will soon be available off the coast of Maine according to WABI news.<\/span><\/p>\n The Vinalhaven Housing Initiative says it is putting the finishing touches on four units of affordable rental housing that will soon be available to eligible year-round residents.<\/span><\/p>\n Vinalhaven Housing Initiative or V-H-I, was formed in 2023 with a stated mission to establish year-round, affordable and sustainable housing for residents of the island 15 miles from the mainland.<\/span><\/p>\n Thanks to funding from supporters and a $840,000 grant from MaineHousing, V-H-I was able to move forward with its first major project this year.<\/span><\/p>\n The four homes will provide housing for up to ten people.<\/span><\/p>\n The expectation is that the homes will be ready in the new year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Gov.
