Man pleads guilty in 2020 manslaughter case

A man will spend time behind bars after pleading guilty in a 2020 manslaughter case.

Jason M. Andrews pleaded guilty in Hancock County Superior court to reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and aggravated driving to endanger according to the Ellsworth American.

In April 2020, a passenger in the car Andrews was operating died after crashing while driving 85 miles an hour on Tunk Lake Road in Sullivan.

Police confirmed to the paper that Andrews and the passenger had been drinking, leading to authorities discovering Andrews blood content was nearly twice the legal limit.

He will spend 90 days in jail and two years on probation.

Police investigate crash where pedestrian was struck in Fairfield

On Friday, police say a man was hit by a car in Fairfield.

It happened on Main Street at around 4:30 p.m. where authorities say 49-year-old Dana Dodge of Fairfield crossed Main Street outside of a crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing when he was hit by a car.

Police tell WABI news, Dodge was taken to an Augusta hospital and later flown to Portland with life-threatening injuries.

The driver was not hurt in the crash and no charges are being filed at this time.

Mount Desert will host discussion around new recycling system

The town of Mount Desert is planning to change the way they recycle.

On Wednesday, Jan 21 from 5:30-6:30 p.m., join the Public Works director and the executive director of municipal waste hub to learn about the system and ask questions.

Down East Community Hospital welcomes first baby of the new year

Some good news from the Down East Community Hospital. 

Officials tell us they’ve welcomed the first baby of 2026!

Lucas Farley, the second child of Stephanie Farley of East Machias said hello to the world on Jan. 8.

The loving family including his big brother Liam are so excited and the hospital crew gifted them a New Year’s baby basket filled with items for the baby and gift cards for the family.
