City of Ellsworth updates

After the significant snowfall, City of Ellsworth officials want you to know that trash pickup will resume on Wednesday.

They also want to remind residents about the winter parking ban which will help give crews space they need to plow and clear roads and sidewalks.

Six people dead after plane crash in Bangor

Bangor International airport officials say six people have died after a business jet crashed after taking off on Sunday night.

Bangor airport officials say no one from the incident was transported to the hospital.

They tell WABI news that with the large number of stakeholders involved, it is important they didn’t release information until all parties have completed their work.

This after the Federal Aviation Administration reported Sunday night that the plane had eight passengers on board.

The airport will be closed until noon today however that is subject to change.

2nd fire at a vacant building in Ellsworth within less than two weeks

Fire crews endured brutally cold temperatures while fighting a fire at a vacant building in Ellsworth early Sunday morning. 

The fire on Spruce Street was reported around 6 a.m. 

When firefighters arrived, flames were coming out of the second floor and rear of the building. 

Crews initially went inside the building to try putting the fire out but were pulled back for safety reasons. 

Moments later, the rear second floor of the building collapsed. 

This is the second fire at a vacant building in Ellsworth in less than two weeks. 

Crews battled another fire on January 14 on Water Street. 

Authorities determined that the fire was intentionally set. 

The cause of this fire is currently being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

AIO thanks community after ‘Fill the Strand’ event

A great update to a story we brought you recently.

AIO Food and Energy Assistance held their ‘Fill the Strand’ event for the sixth year in a row.

They collected more than 7,400 pounds of food and more than $40,000!

The executive director says that the funds donated to this event by community members will help AIO feed the community for the next five weeks and get through the hardest part of winter.

They want to thank the community for showing up and they invite anyone who is interested to visit AIO for a tour.

You can do that on weekdays between 9-5.

Professional Logging Contractors raise over $200K for Children’s Miracle Network 

Thanks to community support at multiple fundraisers, the Professional Logging Contractors of the Northeast have raised $292,746 for Children’s Miracle Network last year.

It was all through their annual Log A Load for kids efforts.

Log a Load for Kids is a campaign that began in 1988 when loggers and others in the forest products industry started donating the value of a load of logs to their local Children’s Miracle Network.

Leaders have worked to keep the tradition going by supporting hundreds of families.
