Bangor Mall owners ordered to pay $1.1 million if settlement can’t be settled

Parts of the Bangor Mall are without power after city officials say they were left with no choice citing concerns over health and safety.

Namdar Realty Group, the New York company that owns the mall stated they made most of the repairs however a judge has determined there are still violations concerning the maintenance of stormwater management, the roof and paving.

WABI news reports city officials say if the roof was not repaired within two weeks, the entire mall could be closed.

The legal battles continue as a judge ordered for the settlement to be reached between the city and Namdar in 45 days from Jan. 30.

Police are still searching for missing Hampden man

After a man went missing more than two weeks ago, authorities are still searching the property of where he resides.

78-year-old Douglas Dunphy is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall weighing 210 pounds and often wears a black Carhartt jacket and blue cap.

WABI news reports Hampden Public Safety have asked for the public’s help in finding Dunphy since Jan. 16.

Police did recover a vehicle associated with Dunphy last week however there has been no contact with him.

Surry select board proposes plan to elevate Newbury Neck Road

Those in Surry don’t want to see the level of washouts witnessed on Newbury Neck Road in 2023 and 2024 after windstorms.

That’s why the select board proposed a plan to raise the surface level of the road at Carrying Place Beach. 

The Ellsworth American reports the town will ask residents to approve proceeding with a construction project and if they approve, the select board will be authorized to accept over two million dollars in congressionally directed funding.

The publication reports the funding from the federal emergency manager agency must be approved by Congress and receive the president’s signature.

Mount Desert fraud alert

Town of officials in Mount Desert say they are aware of fraudulent invoices that have been circulating to local businesses.

Officials say in the notice that the invoices are portraying to be from the town.

They ask for those affected to remain vigilant as they work to investigate it and those who may receive an unexpected invoice from the town to confirm the authenticity of it with the town office.

Mount Desert will never email an invoice or ask for funds to be wired.

9-year-old writes book to shed awareness on bullying

One nine-year-old Bucksport girl decided to turn her pain into something positive.

Olivia Kirby says she has been bullied in school since Kindergarten all because she is biracial.

Leaving her confused and saddened, her family, friends and principal encouraged her along the way but she thought of expressing herself in a different light.

She wrote about her experiences with her family friend Savanna Colson in a book called ‘Olivia and the Color of Kindness’ to talk about the importance of inclusivity.

She hopes her message will give anyone who may experience that a boost of confidence to love who they are, as they are.
