Ellsworth PD responds to hand grenade incident
On Tuesday, Ellsworth Police, fire and Maine State authorities responded to a report of a hand grenade in the Goodwill store.
Police say a little after 8:30am they received a call from staff at the Goodwill in Ellsworth reporting a hand grenade was located in donated items.
Police and fire officials established a safe perimeter while Maine State police and the fire marshal’s office were notified.
The Maine State police explosive ordnance disposal team determined the device was in fact a hand grenade however the explosive core was removed.
There were no other alarming devices in the area.
Houlton town manager pleads no contest to charge
Cameron Clark, the former Houlton town manager was found guilty in court Tuesday after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge.
The 28-year-old entered the no-contest plea to a new charge of attempted obstruction of criminal prosecution as a part of an agreement.
WAGM news reports the three original charges of tampering with a victim, domestic violence assault and obstructing criminal prosecution will be dismissed.
The victim in the case outlined lasting physical and emotional effects from the incident that took place last year.
Clark is ordered to pay $660.

Penobscot Island Air says postal services owes nearly $400K
A regional air service announced deliveries from the United States Postal Service will come to a halt.
This after Penobscot Island Air says they are owed $388,000 from the United States Postal Service for mail deliveries in 2023.
WMTW reports the airline reported USPS did make some payments earlier in the year however there have been no payments since March 13 on top of not being paid for any deliveries in 2026.
The airlines were still making deliveries for FedEx and UPS on Tuesday however they’re looking to get to an agreement with USPS.
Parking lot project nears completion ahead of little league season
Ellsworth’s DeMeyer Field is almost complete ahead of Little League season which is set to begin in May.
Leaders at the Ellsworth Rotary Club have led the project to increase safety and keep kids out of the street at the fields.
The Ellsworth American reports nearly $180,000 has been raised to support the project however they aren’t done yet.
The publication reports they’re looking to secure about $50,000 to complete the project and you can help.

City of Ellsworth issues ‘Citizen Award of Merit’
A round of applause is in order for Jaxon Mansfield as he is the official recipient of the Citizen Award of Merit.
The City of Ellsworth and Ellsworth Fire were proud to award Mansfield after his impressive composure and courageous actions during a life-threatening incident on March 20.
Jaxon was involved in a serious vehicle rollover and the car came to rest on its side in a swamp above rising water.
After extricating himself, he urgently assisted an injured family member remember the right steps of keeping a clear mind in an intense situation.
Way to go Jaxon for that courageous act and your bravery.
You have certainly made Ellsworth proud.
