Vice President JD Vance to speak on fraud in Bangor
Earlier this week it was announced that Vice President JD Vance will be in Bangor Thursday, speaking at the Bangor International Airport.
Vance is expected to speak about the Trump administration’s push to combat fraud across the country.
WABI news reports White House officials say alleged identity theft and benefit scams have impacted people in Maine with cases seen in state and federal court.
Airport officials say there will be minimal disruption.

All articles passed in Hancock Annual town meeting
On Tuesday, the Hancock annual town meeting took place at the Hancock Grammar School.
All 88 articles presented met voter approval during the meeting.
The Ellsworth American reports that includes the over $6 million municipal budget that included funding for education and county taxes.
The publication reports voters also approved $35,000 for a future fire truck fund.
Ellsworth Public Library funding request moves to senate committee
Leaders at the Ellsworth Public Library announced their request for $3 million in Congressionally Directed Spending to the Senate Appropriations Committee has advanced.
Sen. Susan Collins and Angus King helped push the funds forward.
Library leaders say supporters and community members have worked to voice support to both King and Collins office including a letter of support signed by 46 local businesses.
The funds would support the preservation and expansion of the library.
The final decision is expected in July 2026.
Treatment center moving forward in Ellsworth
After halting renovations at a building in Ellsworth, Everest Recovery, a network of opioid use disorder clinics can move forward.
The new center will offer an extension of resources for those in Hancock County seeking treatment.
The Ellsworth American reports the city’s legal counsel approved construction to resume for the clinic.
The clinics offer treatments with daily medications, as well as counseling, case management and home health services.
Volunteers needed for Community Tree Nursery cleanup
Help is needed for the City of Ellsworth’s Nursery Spring cleanup.
On Saturday, May 23 starting at 10 AM volunteers are encouraged to gather at the Jordan Homestead Preserve on Bayside Road to help care and grow young trees to help shape the city’s landscape.
Volunteers will help with repairing winter frost damage, securing tree stakes, and preparing the nursery for the growing season ahead.
All necessary tools will be provided and participants are encouraged to wear work boots, gloves, and weather appropriate clothing.

8th Annual Jeep Ride and Show returns to Ellsworth
On Saturday, May 17 head to the Darling’s Auto Mall for the 8th Annual Jeep Ride and Show!
Rain or shine, the popular event will start at noon in the parking lot of Darling’s Auto Mall.
Food, raffle items and more will be available for patrons and the best part is all proceeds will go to Jeeping for Vets.
The ride will leave Darling’s Auto Mall for a scenic trip around the coast and pre-registration is now open.
