Caregiver accused of abusing elderly woman
A Lewiston man is accused of abusing an 80-year-old Bucksport woman.
The incidents took place in September of last year.
The Ellsworth American reports the 65-year-old man was charged with five counts of unlawful sexual contact while working as a caregiver.
The publication reports details on the case are inadequate citing there was no arrest warrant affidavit in court files.
The man accused of the abuse is free on $1,000 cash bail.
Gov. Janet Mills orders flags to be lowered on Thursday
Governor Mills has directed that all Flags be lowered Thursday to honor Gerald Talbot and Game Warden Joshua Tibbetts.
Flags are ordered to be lowered on Friday as well to honor fallen firefighter Andrew Cross.
Talbot, Maine’s first Black legislator and the founding president of the Maine NAACP, will be honored at Merrill Auditorium in Portland at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
The Celebration of Life for Tibbetts is scheduled for Thursday at the Cross Insurance Arena at 1 PM.
A memorial service for Cross will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Veracity Chapel in Morrill.
Authorities provide update on Robbins Lumber fire
On Tuesday, federal and state investigators held a press conference to update the public on their progress of investigating the deadly fire at Robbins Lumber.
They tell WABI the investigation is “active and complex.” State Fire Marshal Shawn Esler says nearly 300 firefighters from 46 departments responded to the scene in the first two days.
They also called on those who may be interested in volunteering for the fire department to do so citing the town of Searsmont like others, depend on the service.
Hannaford issues recall on bread rolls
Hannaford Supermarkets has issued a recall on bread rolls due to mislabeling.
The food chain says the 8-pack Nature’s Promise Ciabatta Rolls and the 8-pack Nature’s Promise Cheddar Ciabatta rolls are mislabeled.
WABI news reports Hannaford leaders say those products may be missing the egg allergen on the label if it was bought between May 10 and May 18.
Customers can bring those products back for a full refund.
Memorial Day observance in Ellsworth
City officials of Ellsworth have released details on their Memorial Day observance on Monday, May 25.
As we honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice to serve our country, city leaders invite you to a ceremony.
Veterans will gather at the bridge at 9:30 AM for a brief ceremony before proceeding to the City Hall lawn where a wreath laying ceremony will take place.
City officials say the ceremony should wrap up at 11 AM and expect some traffic interruptions near the bridge and city hall.
