Police arrested 22-year-old Mariah Grover of Texas and Maine and 27-year-old Jefferson Jazzir Arias who reside in Texas and California.
The Knox County Sheriff’s office conducted a traffic stop in Thomaston and seized cocaine, a handgun over nine thousand dollars in drug proceeds and other indicators of drug trafficking.
Secretary of State issues final wording on referendum question
After deciding to remove the question surrounding a citizens initiative to limit transgender athletes participation in school sports, the Secretary of State issued the final wording.
Shenna Bellows and her office stated if the question appears on November’s ballot the question will read as follows:
“Do you want to change civil rights and education laws to require public schools to restrict access to bathrooms, other private spaces, and sports, based on the sex on every child’s original birth certificate, and allow students to sue the schools?”
On May 26, Secretary Bellows accepted the recommendation of her staff which found that over 12,000 signatures signed on the initiative were invalid.
There is still a possibility of appeal from the group who spearheaded the question called Protect Girls Sports in Maine.
Maine DMR partnership with Wyman’s improves fish passage
The Maine Department of Marine Resources announced a successful partnership that is set to improve fish passage for alewives.
In partnership with Wyman’s, a Milbridge-based blueberry grower, the passage into Bog Brook Flowage on the Narraguagus River will restore a path for the native fish to support Maine’s coastal economy.
Leaders say the Bog Brook Flowage is a 1,600-acre wetland that is adjacent to blueberry barrens owned by Wyman’s.
The path gives an important habitat for a wide range of fish and wildlife which increases the ecological health of the watershed and long-term restoration of sea-run fish populations in Downeast.
