Special town meeting scheduled for June 4 in Surry

A special town meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 4 for residents of the town of Surry.

Topics being discussed include a new roof for the school and ways to improve indoor air quality.

The Ellsworth American says the total amount in the project would amount to over $1 million projected to wrap up around September 30, 2027.

If plans are approved, town officials have created a strategy on how to secure funding which includes engaging in a loan agreement that would be forgiven by the Maine Municipal Bond Bank.

The meeting starts at 6 PM.

Eliot Cutler granted limited internet access

Eliot Cutler, a former gubernatorial candidate was back in court Monday after pleading guilty to possessing sexually explicit images of children.

The judge granted the convicted sex offender’s proceedings of probation revocation.

WABI news reports the decision to delay proceedings will give investigators more time to search Cutler’s computer after he was accused of violating probation for the fifth time.

While Cutler is released he has conditional internet use as the judge ordered for him to be supervised by either his wife or brother.

Robbins Lumber website shows mill is operating at full capacity

After a tragic fire and explosion, leaders at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont have announced the mill is fully operational again.

The company posted an announcement on their website.

WABI news reports the mill began processing orders last week and the coating facility has continued normal operations.

There is a temporary on-site warehouse which will help employees keep up with demand.

The explosion on May 15 killed Morrill firefighter Andrew Cross and injured 12 others.

Absentee voting on Mount Desert Island

Mount Desert Island town officials want you to know absentee voting will be conducted at the town office on the evening of Thursday, June 4.

From 5-7 PM the town clerk will do absentee voting giving residents one last chance to submit absentee voting without special circumstances.

Those circumstances include being absent from your municipality unexpectedly during the entire time polls are open, having a physical or mental disability, being unable to leave your home due to incapacity or illness, or being a caregiver who is unable to attend the polls.

June 9 is election day.

City of Ellsworth updates residents on Surry Road

City of Ellsworth officials have a quick update for residents on Surry road.

As crews planned to work on a culvert repair near Black House, officials say the contractor was unable to start the work scheduled this week so the project has been temporarily delayed.

City officials say the project is still expected to happen.

Maine Criminal Justice Academy graduation

It’s graduation season!

The Maine Criminal Justice Academy will graduate 67 Cadets from the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program on Friday.

One of those cadets includes a member of the Ellsworth Police Department!

Cadets represent 42 municipal, county and state law enforcement agencies
