Three races in Maine’s primary election goes to ranked choice voting

The Secretary of State’s office announced three races will proceed to ranked choice voting tabulations.

Officials say based on initial results, the race for the democratic and republican nominee for Governor will go to ranked choice voting tabulations as well as the democratic seat for congressional district two.

They say more state-level races are still to be determined and if any recounts are necessary, that will be announced at a later date.

Leaders say the ranked choice tabulation process will begin on Friday, June 12 at 1 PM at the Maine Department of Public Safety Headquarters in Augusta.

Ellsworth School budget approved for municipal referendum

Voters in Ellsworth had other matters to decide on Tuesday.

That involved the $34.6 million school budget.

The Ellsworth American reports the budget was approved by the school board and city council with an increase of 7.85%.

The publication reports voters also pushed through the school budget validation process for an additional three years, and they approved an increase in the Ellsworth Public Library board of trustees.

Jackson Lab awarded $1.8M grant for Parkinson’s research

On Tuesday, the Jackson Laboratory out of Bar Harbor was awarded funds.

A $1.8 million grant is secured for the nonprofit for Parkinson’s research.

The Ellsworth American reports the research will focus on the limited availability of human cell model systems to analyze the biology and approaches to Parkinson’s.

The publication reports the research will focus on the most known genetic risk factor for the disease.

Bar Harbor’s ‘Art in the Park’ returns for 74th year

What’s described as Bar Harbor’s longest running art show is returning for the 74th year in a row.

Art in the Park will take place on the Village Green in Bar Harbor on June 20 & 21.

Starting at 10 AM each day, you can see local fine artists and learn the history behind the event as they celebrate over 70 years of supporting and showcasing local talents.

The event is free to the public.

Movies under the stars returns for Summer season

The City of Ellsworth is ready to celebrate Summer with you in many ways including their ‘Movies Under the Stars’ event in Knowlton Park.

Community members can bring their blankets, lawn chairs, favorite snacks and please don’t forget your bug spray – to enjoy over 5 classic movies.

The city collaborated with leaders at The Grand to host the free outdoor movie series which will start on July 2 with Zootopia 2.

Cooper Flagg named on Time list of 100 most influential people in sports

We are in the midst of the NBA Finals however Maine’s Cooper Flagg continues to shine bright in the league.

Flagg has been named to Time Magazine’s inaugural list of the 100 most influential people in sports.

WMTW reports Flagg made the list in the ‘innovators’ category after being crowned NBA Rookie of the Year with an exceptional record.

Flagg joins the legendary Michael Jordan as the only rookie to lead their teams in total points, rebounds, assists and steals since 1973!
