Platner suspends campaign after sexual assault allegations
Democratic nominee Graham Platner has withdrawn from the U.S. Senate race in Maine after an allegation of sexual assault.
Platner announced Wednesday night on social media the withdrawal and says he hopes the process is “open, transparent and democratic,” moving forward.
41-year-old Jenny Racicot of Maine said in 2021, Platner came to her home uninvited, intoxicated and forced her to have sex despite repeatedly telling him to stop.
Platner denied those allegations.
After Platner made his announcement, former Maine Senate president Troy Jackson announced his run for U.S. Senate.
