Man charged with arson in Harrington fire
After a fire erupted at a structure in Harrington on July 17, a man has been charged.
75-year-old Arthur Langley is charged with arson and reckless conduct after the state fire marshals office determined the outdoor burn was intentional.
Langley was arrested Tuesday and is held at Washington County jail without bail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Eastbrook town residents witness smooth town meeting as majority of article passed
On Monday, Eastbrook held their annual town meeting and it was smooth sailing.
Voters approved a nearly two-million dollar budget.
The Ellsworth American reports that included county taxes and funding for education.
Residents also approved raising sums for local agencies and nonprofits.
Searsport teen recovers after being burned from grease fire
A Searsport teenager is recovering from serious injuries sustained in a grease fire.
Investigators with the Office of the State Fire Marshal were called to Prospect Street on Tuesday.
They determined the 16-year-old was upstairs when she heard the home’s smoke alarms go off.
She came downstairs and found the kitchen filled with smoke and a pot of cooking oil burning on the stove.
She tried moving the pot to the kitchen sink but the burning oil flared up, causing severe burns and injuries.
The victim was initially taken to Waldo County General Hospital and then transferred to Maine Medical Center for specialized treatment.
Ellsworth PD participates in regional OUI enforcement effort
In partnership with the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety and other law enforcement agencies, the Ellsworth Police Department is reminding everyone to make safe choices behind the wheel.
The regional OUI enforcement effort is a part of the District 7 RIDE Team which will conduct Operating Under the Influence enforcement detail in Ellsworth over the weekend of July 31 through August 2.
Officers advise you to plan ahead of family or friend gatherings and get a designated sober driver, use a rideshare or taxi, stay where you are if you’ve been drinking and help your loved ones make safe choices as well.
Hydrant Flushing scheduled in Ellsworth
Just a reminder for Ellsworth residents, hydrant flushing will be happening next week.
On Thursday, Aug. 6 expect to see work taking place on Grant Street and Chapel Street.
The routine maintenance which takes place twice a year will help keep the water system running smoothly.
Experts say residents can expect temporary low water pressure or reduced water flow, discolored or yellowish water or cloudy water.
If you notice these conditions after the flushing is complete, run the cold water tap until it becomes clear.
The work is expected to start at 7:30 a.m.
Ellsworth Rotary to host ‘Blueberry Pancake Breakfast’
In light of Wild Blueberry celebrations across the state, the Ellsworth Rotary Club invited you to join them Saturday morning for a delicious way to kick off the weekend.
Starting at 7 a.m. head to Down East Family YMCA for their all you can eat blueberry pancake breakfast.
The effort won’t just be a great start to your Saturday morning but it will also support local Rotary scholarships and charitable programs to make a difference in the community.
