Ellsworth woman killed, three others injured in Gouldsboro crash
Sunday night, Maine State Police reported an Ellsworth woman died and three others were injured after a crash.
It happened at the intersection of Route 1 and Old Route 1 at around 7 p.m.
Investigators say it appears 46-year-old Courtney Washington of Bangor failed to stop at a stop sign leading her to hit an SUV on Route 1.
39-year-old Heather Allen of Ellsworth was the driver of the SUV and the impact led the car to spin into the opposite lane where she was hit by another car and rolled over.
Allen was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger in that car and the driver of the second car that hit Allen were taken to the hospital.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Maine voters can request absentee ballots for November General Election
Registered voters can now request an absentee ballot for the November general election.
Contact your city or town clerk for the form or you can access it through the Maine Secretary of State Website.
The ballots will be available on October 5 and the deadline to request an absentee ballot is October 29.
The general election is on Tuesday, November 3.
Maine officials continue search for missing woman
Maine officials are still searching for an 83-year-old woman who was last seen leaving her home in Greenville on July 27.
Eleanor ‘Merrill’ Pritham was heading to Florida however she never arrived at her destination.
WABI news reports she spoke with family on Wednesday and was believed to be in the South Carolina area at the time.
Pritham drives a red Kia Soul with a Florida license plate of BX44YK and is believed to have her two dogs.
Family told authorities she recently has shown signs of memory loss and cognitive issues.

Bucksport finishes fiscal year with $250K surplus
The town of Bucksport is projected to have a good boost at the end of fiscal year 2026.
Based on a financial report, preliminary findings suggest the town could finish with a $250,000 surplus.
The River Observer reports the annual audit has not been done yet however the town manager says careful spending, targeted revenue improvements and good oversight has helped.
The publication reports the hopeful surplus will help the town fuel its fund balance.
Deaths reported in cyclospora outbreak
Two people have died in the cyclospora outbreak in Michigan in the first confirmed deaths in the U.S. related to the microscopic parasite, state health officials announced Monday.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said both people had underlying health conditions that may have been impacted by the intestinal illness and dehydration.
The Associated Press reports the department said it will not be providing additional information about the deaths.
The parasite infects food that has come into contact with human feces, most commonly when produce is irrigated or washed with contaminated water.
When ingested, it causes intestinal illness marked by “frequent and sometimes explosive bowel movements,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Study launched at COA to assess Black Bears on MDI
In an effort to better understand black bears on Mount Desert Island, researchers at the College of the Atlantic have launched a multi-year study.
The goal is to not only assess a resident bear population but the study is a way to understand how bears are using the mix of national park land, local villages and even private property.
The best part is that the study invites residents and visitors to contribute.
Public observations are welcomed by submitting non-emergency bear sightings through the link on our website.
Leaders also say they’re doing this study in a noninvasive DNA collection approach by collecting hair snares.
