Woman dies after falling off Bangor bridge
On Monday, a woman died after falling from the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge.
Bangor PD responded to the plaza under the bridge after receiving reports 44-year-old Jessica Emery had fallen.
The Bangor Daily news reports Emery was homeless and was taken to the hospital where she later died.
No additional details have been released at this time.
Bar Harbor PD respond to damages of an art vendor’s tent
Sunday morning authorities responded to the Bar Harbor Village Green.
They received reports of two people who were seen damaging an art show vendor’s tent at around 2 a.m.
The Bar Harbor story reports an officer located the two people who allegedly gained access to one of the tents; however later that same morning a vendor reported damage to their tent.
No charges were filed.
Ellsworth planning board discusses new residential lots in Ellsworth
After a proposal was created regarding new residential lots on Nicolin Road, the Ellsworth Planning Board gave initial approval.
11 lots were presented for the opportunity to build housing.
The Ellsworth American reports the development is named Boulder Creek Subdivision however the proposal includes no construction on the land itself.
The publication reports the owner would look to sell those properties leaving any future development opportunities up to applicable city and state requirements.
Final approval is still needed before anything proceeds.
Planning process underway for new potential correctional center in Aroostook
A countywide search is underway for a suitable space for a new Aroostook County jail.
The current jail was constructed in 1889.
WAGM reports officials say the facility has reached the end of its useful life and renovations wouldn’t be reasonable.
The county Administrator Justin Tibbets says they’re seeking property submissions and the new jail site would need a minimum of 15 acres of land.

Sen. King supports bill aiming to protect Maine fisheries
Senator Angus King is co-sponsoring a bill to protect Maine fisheries.
The bill will also look to improve the accuracy of fish stock counts.
WABI news reports the legislation would support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to host more cost-effective fish counts.
King says current fish stock surveys have gaps in coverage due to operational costs climbing and limited equipment.
Gas prices climb in Maine
The average price of gas in Maine has gone up six cents per gallon in the last week according to GasBuddy.
The average price for a gallon of regular in Maine is $4.19.
WABI news reports that reflects a 13.8 cent jump per gallon higher than a month ago.
The head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy says diesel surged in every state and Labor Day weekend set a new all-time record for holiday gas prices.
