Convicted killer challenges 60-year sentence in 2013 teen murder
A former Orono man serving a 60-year prison sentence for the murder of a Maine teenager is back in court trying to overturn his conviction.
33-year-old Kyle Dube was convicted in 2015 of kidnapping and murdering 15-year-old Nichole Cable of Glenburn after using a fake Facebook profile to lure her into the woods.
WABI news reports Dube’s attorney is petitioning for post-conviction review, arguing there is newly discovered evidence, prosecutorial misconduct, and ineffective legal counsel.
The state Supreme Judicial Court previously upheld his conviction following his two-week trial.
A Penobscot County Superior Court hearing will determine whether Dube’s petition moves forward or gets dismissed.

School bus crash shuts down road near Cony High school
A Tuesday afternoon traffic crash involving a school bus near Cony High School forced road closures in Augusta.
The collision happened around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Cony Street and Pierce Drive, leaving visible debris scattered across the roadway.
WABI news reports city officials completely shut down Cony Street to traffic and urged anyone traveling to or from the school campus to use the South Belfast Avenue entrance.
Augusta school officials were on the scene handling the response immediately following the incident.

The Ellsworth American reports local projects include dock floodproofing in Cranberry Isles and Southwest Harbor, stormwater and drinking water protections in Deer Isle, and wastewater evaluations in Bar Harbor.
Other awards will fund municipal energy-efficiency upgrades and emergency warming and cooling shelters in towns like Ellsworth, Lamoine, and Swan’s Island.
