Happenings in November at Versant Power Astronomy Center
There’s always something unique happening at the Versant Power Astronomy Center and Jordan Planetarium at the University of Maine.
The experiences ranging from space-based birthday parties, to interactive public events and performances gives attendees a chance to explore the universe in their own way.
Star 97.7 talked with the director, Shawn Laatsch about what you can expect in November.
“We have sort of a split month,” said Laatsch.
“The first two weekends Nov. 7, 8 and 14, 15 we actually have a special theatrical play called Cosmogenesis: The Story of Us and this is a live theater performance in the planetarium, actually our third we’ve done and this is a special program. Basically, it’s coming in from Boulder, Colorado from the University of Colorado out there. The playwright has written this program and it takes a look at a young woman who is finding her place not only in the world but in the universe and so it takes a look at sort of our relationship to that.”
The programs will take place on those two Fridays at 7PM and both Saturdays at 2PM and 7PM.
On the final two Fridays of November, the 21 and 28, the planetarium will be back to their regularly scheduled 7PM public shows.
“Those are going to be Galaxy: Journey through the Milky Way,” said Laatsch.
“It’s a brand new program that takes a look at our Milky Way galaxy up close and some of its components as well.”
Their children’s program for the month of November, the Great Solar System adventure, takes place at 2PM on Sundays and kids can take a look at the solar system in a fun way!
Their music show for November is the Lumineers featuring a number of their hits that will pair with special visualizations on Sundays at 4PM.
