MaineHealth says gender affirming care patients will receive care
WMTW reports MaineHealth is reassuring patients who receive gender affirming care that they will still be able to receive the care despite new guidance from the federal government.
Last week, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced plans to no longer provide Medicare or Medicaid funding to hospitals that provide gender affirming care to people younger than 19 years old.
In a statement to WMTW the MaineHealth CEO expressed disappointment in the federal government for interfering with options.
According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, Maine is one of 27 states that allows people younger than 19 to receive gender affirming care.
