Drones have been used by the department creating quicker investigations into crashes, fires and even search-and-rescue efforts.
The Ellsworth American says with traffic at a constant high due to travel to Acadia and Bar Harbor, this new outlook can have a major impact.
Stowaways Town Tavern drawing large crowds after opening in Bucksport
A new family restaurant in Bucksport has drawn large crowds of people after opening in the building MacLeod’s restaurant fed locals for decades, according to the Bangor Daily News.
Stowaways Town Tavern has seen repeat customers from Belfast, Bangor and MDI according to the paper.
The restaurant at 63 Main St. has helped boost up a turnover of the dining scene in the area.
The paper says so far popular items include steak, chicken, meatloaf and plenty of chowder.
Major road closure in Bangor
You can expect a major road closure if you’re driving through Bangor this week.
The City of Bangor says a section of Broadway near the I-95 bridge construction site will be closed between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. starting Sunday night and ending Thursday morning.
The closure is necessary as crews work to demolish the I-95 Southbound bridge over Broadway.
For those walking in the area, the city says there will be flaggers to help assist pedestrians.
Penobscot County Sheriff’s warning drivers after responding to high number of deer collisions
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s office is warning drivers after responding to a high number of traffic crashes involving deer.
Police want drivers to keep in mind a few tips.
- Be alert at peak time and common crossing areas
- Scan the road
- Use high beams
- Slow down
- Don’t be distracted by electronics
- Always wear your seatbelt.
If you do hit a deer, stay in your car, pull over, call for help and stay away from the animal.
Over $10K raised during Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in Pittsfield
The power of community was on full display in Pittsfield over the weekend as more than 100 people turned out for Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.
WABI news reports the 31st annual event drew survivors, friends and families, as well as local businesses and hospital staff.
The goal is to raise awareness about the importance of breast cancer screening mammograms.
More than $10,000 was raised at the event.
Those funds will be used for mammograms, equipment, and other service needs to enhance care provided at Northern Light Women’s Health in Pittsfield.
100 before 100
A grandmother from Florida raced to Bar Harbor to take another step towards the finish line of a lifetime goal.
74-year-old Gloria Vasquez told WABI news her goal of a century: race 100 marathons before she turns 100.
She competed in Sunday’s Mount Desert Island Marathon, making it her 96-th race so far.
Gloria began racing shortly after immigrating from Colombia in 1981.
Gloria intends for her final race of this challenge to be the New York City Marathon – the same race that got her hooked in the first place.
What comes after that?
She hopes to run the Appalachian Trail, talk about inspiration.
