Three-County community action agency discusses future plans

Aroostook County Action Program’s new three-county community action agency is looking to fulfill the needs for all counties and replenish resourceful programs for locals.

This after a decision was made that effective October 1, they would oversee all operations from Downeast Community Partners

According to ACAP, the new agency supporting Aroostook, Washington, and Hancock County will launch with a new name and brand in 2026.

Here’s what the CEO, Jason Parent, has to say.

“Yeah I think that’s an essential part moving forward is to look at growth opportunities in ways that serve the three counties across the board in a more effective and efficient way,” said Parent.

“To look for opportunities where we as a community action agency reflect upon a community needs assessment that we’re required to conduct every three years which is a part of our community services block grant which is what makes the community action agency in the United States a community action agency. So we’re constantly looking at what the people in the counties are saying are their needs.”

The Community Action in Aroostook, Washington and Hancock Counties Radiothon will be hosted by Star 97.7 on Thursday, Nov. 13.

Funds raised will help benefit Washington and Hancock county residents with home energy assistance.
