Gov. Mills directs Maine DHHS to issue SNAP benefits in November
Gov. Janet Mills announced Friday she is directing the Maine Department of Health and Human Services to issue full Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for November, according to WABI news.
Mills gave the order after the U.S. Department of Agriculture released new guidance Friday indicating it would issue full SNAP benefits in compliance with multiple court orders.
According to Maine DHHS, about $29 million in Federal funding for SNAP is provided to 170,000 Mainers.
Mills says Maine DHHS will issue the full November SNAP benefits this week starting Monday.

New Ellsworth Courthouse location opens up opportunities for future projects
According to the Bangor Daily News, the site where the city of Ellsworth is constructing the new judicial center could open up the door for further improvements in the city.
The paper says city manager Charles Pearce says a parking lot for the Down East Sunrise trail could be built near the new courthouse off of Merrill Lane.
Pearce also told the paper that the city could explore options to build a boardwalk trail along part of Card Brook, a wetland on the east side of High street.
This if the city gets an easement and grant money that hasn’t been applied for yet.
Childcare facility in Bar Harbor closing at the end of the year
According to the Bar Harbor story, the childcare facility at Jackson Laboratory will be closing its doors on December 31, 2025.
The publication says parents and caregivers received the news Wednesday night after officials said they explored every avenue to make the facility financially stable, however the losses year-to-date are greater than budgeted for.
Officials tell the Bar Harbor Story they are working to find child care options for those who need assistance.
‘Fill the Bus, Feed WCTC Students’ donation drive underway
The Pen Bay pilot reports the Waldo County Technical Center will host a donation drive throughout the month of November.
The ‘Fill the Bus – Feed WCTC Students’ drive invites the community to donate nonperishables and supplies like toiletries, papers goods and household essentials.
The paper says donations can be dropped off through Monday, Nov. 14 at Waldo County Technical Center.

Searsport community honors local hero
The Searsport community held a celebration for its harbor master, Wayne Hamilton, Friday night, according to WABI news.
Family, friends, and residents came together to honor Hamilton’s long career with a lifetime achievement award as he begins retirement.
He’s served as the harbor master since 1985 and has compiled countless rescue missions.
While life on the water has brought Hamilton fulfillment, he believes the impact he’s been able to have on other people is where he finds the most joy.
