Student hit by bus in Rockland has died
A student who was hit by a school bus Friday afternoon in Rockland has died, according to the Rockland Police Department.
The student was struck at the intersection of Eliza Steele Drive and Broadway just before 2:30 p.m., officials said Friday.
Rockland Police say the child was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland where the child died of their injuries.
RSU 13 said they are working with law enforcement and emergency responders as they investigate.
Both Rockland Police and RSU 13 said they will not release additional details at this time.

Man recovering after being stabbed in the face in Portland
A Freeport man is recovering after being stabbed in the face in Portland Saturday in what authorities are calling an “unprovoked” attack.
Portland Police responded to Longfellow Square Park around 8 p.m. to find a 66-year-old man who was suffering from knife wounds to his face.
He was taken to a Portland hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Portland Police say they arrested Donald Couisino, 48, who is unhoused, and charged him with aggravated assault and he was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
Police say the two men did not know each other.

Accused scammer from Texas arrested in Maine sting operation
A Texas man is being held at a Maine jail after authorities claimed he tried to scam a person out of hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of gold.
The 35-year-old man was arrested Friday as part of a sting operation, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office said a few weeks ago, the daughter of an older person discovered the scam and reported it to authorities.
The woman told officers her parents received a call from a man claiming to be from the Federal Trade Commission, and that he identified himself by using the name of a current FTC commissioner.
Officials said the scammer put pressure on the victim by telling them there were warrants out for their arrest on drug trafficking and money laundering charges.
The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing.
Donations are wanted for the Community Christmas Free Gift Program
Nonprofits Community Closet 207 and Community Compass have teamed up for the 2025 Community Christmas Program according to the Ellsworth American.
This effort aims to bring more holiday cheer to Hancock and Washington Counties.
Representatives of the organizations tell the paper donations are needed greatly.
Unwrapped gifts can be dropped off anytime before Dec. 10 or you can contribute monetarily.

The Grand announced auditions for ‘Peter and the Wolf’
If you’re eager to make an appearance in an official production, and you’re ages 10 and up, the Grand Theater wants to see you!
They’ve officially announced open auditions for ‘Peter and the Wolf.’
Auditions will be held on Monday Dec. 8 at 6PM and Saturday, December 13 at 10AM.
Auditioners will be asked to cold read a script as they build the performance which will be held on January 22 and 23.
