Two people arrested after Ellsworth PD investigated suspicious activity
According to the Ellsworth Police Department, two people were arrested on Sunday after officers responded to a report of suspicious activity.
Officers investigated a local short-term rental facility and found 35-year-old Alyssa Powell, a transient, and 55-year-old Darrell Thurston of Trenton in possession of nearly 110 grams of suspected fentanyl and over 85 grams of suspected crack cocaine.
Police say Powell had three warrants out for her arrest for not appearing in court.
Officers arrested Powell for the outstanding warrants and additionally charged with trafficking drugs and violations of conditions of release.
Thurston was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking drugs.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges may be pending.
Suspect in New Hampshire killing apprehended in Southwest Harbor
A woman who is a suspect in the killing of a New Hampshire woman was arrested in Southwest Harbor on Nov. 18 by Maine State police, New Hampshire state police and the Southwest Harbor Police Department according to the Ellsworth American.
The paper reports 54-year-old Danielle Jeanne Kelsen is a suspect of killing her mother-in-law earlier this year.
The New Hampshire Department of Justice told the Ellsworth American that the mother-in-law’s death was ruled a homicide.
The paper reports Kelsen is being held at Hancock County jail on a fugitive from justice charge, with an appearance in court scheduled for Dec. 10.
Liens on Downeast Community Partners’ properties filed
The Ellsworth American reports the Maine Department of Health and Human Services filed liens on properties owned by Downeast Community Partners.
The locations are Avery Lane and Bucksport Road in Ellsworth and the Friendship Cottage location on Ellsworth Road in Blue Hill.
The paper says according to the liens a total amount of over $4 million is owed.
However, a spokesperson for Maine DHHS told the Ellsworth American that liens are an option to ensure the department is able to recoup funds.
The paper also reports the Bucksport Road property has been listed for sale for $1.5 million.
Thanksgiving travel expected to be busiest on record
The start of what’s considered the Thanksgiving holiday travel period is underway.
Triple-A projects nearly 82-million people will travel here in the US between now and Monday, December 1.
That’s an additional 1.6 million travelers compared to last year.
In New England, the bump is even greater.
Triple-A expects 3.6 million will travel at least 50 miles from home, a more than two percent increase from last year.
It’s anticipated to be another record year for travel and experts say it’s best to travel in the morning or later at night if you want to avoid the worst of the traffic.

Heart of Ellsworth announced Holiday Workshops
If you’re looking for a creative way to gift your loved ones something special or just discover a hidden talent, head over to 16 State Street in Ellsworth for two holiday workshops hosted by Heart of Ellsworth.
On Saturday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Dec.6 you can create holiday cards, tags, ornaments or even learn how to make linen or accessories.
It’s an opportunity for community members to get creative and connect and space is limited.
Heart of Ellsworth tells Star 97.7 10 spots are available for the first Saturday and 15 are open for the second Saturday session, so early registration is encouraged.

Holiday Basket raffle in Ellsworth open
Over at the Ellsworth Clerk and Tax office you can give back and enter an exciting holiday raffle.
The Holiday Basket Raffle is underway and from now through Dec. 17,you can help raise funds to support the Christmas for Kids fund which helps local children receive gifts during the holiday season.
The official drawing will take place on Dec. 18.
