Dump truck crashes into power lines in Bar Harbor
Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police tell Star 97.7 a dump truck crashed into power lines on Cottage Street Tuesday.
Police say the driver failed to lower the dump body when leaving a construction site and several power lines and poles were pulled down and broken.
Portions of West Street, Cottage Street and Holland Avenue were closed while crews worked to repair the damage.
Bar Harbor firefighters were also on scene.
New judicial center in Ellsworth approved
The Ellsworth American reports the planning board in Ellsworth has approved the construction of the new Hancock County judicial center on High Street and it could lead to different traffic patterns.
The paper reports the approval happened on Wednesday, Dec. 3 and city officials say there’s a possibility for change around the four major intersections near the future site.
City officials say the intersections include the proposed site entrance on Merrill Lane, the intersection of Merrill Lane and High Street and Maine Street to the north as well as the intersection next to Walgreens and south from there.
Houlton town council fire manager after domestic violence arrest
The Houlton Town Council voted unanimously Monday night to fire Town Manager Cameron Clark, according to the Bangor Daily News.
Clark was arrested in September for domestic violence assault and tampering with a witness.
The council initially allowed Clark to remain on the job after his arrest. In early October, they voted to place him on administrative leave.
The Bangor Daily News reported the town council voted to terminate Clark’s contract effective immediately.
Since Clark was let go without cause, he will receive three months severance pay.

Rockland city council limits involvement with ICE
Rockland city council has passed a local ordinance to limit the city’s involvement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The measure passed in a 4-to-1 vote Monday night.
The measure amends the city code to state that employees and resources cannot be used to assist ICE operations “except where legally required to do so by state or federal law or court order.”
The law goes into effect in early January.
Hermon Mountain opener on Saturday
The pieces have been in place for Hermon Mountain’s season opener on Saturday according to WABI news.
The owner, Bill Whitcomb tells WABI the unusual chilly temperatures were a different change of pace as they were making snow to prepare for the season; however, he’s enjoying every second as he prepares to retire after this season.
The Whitcomb family has owned Hermon Mount for about 40 years so they’re excited to welcome families to make memories during their last season.

Head to Drafty Acres farm for a holiday horse drawn ride
For years, one Palmyra farm has been giving holiday joy to families all over with horse drawn rides in the winter season.
Drafty Acres farm is gearing up for future appearance this holiday season, including giving rides at Piper Mountain’s this Saturday.
The farm is also offering family sleigh rides on Christmas Eve, where up to 12 participants per ride can enjoy 40 minutes of the Maine winter wilderness.
Owner Tyler Norris says that preserving horse drawn rides has been part of his family for years, with Christmas Eve rides becoming a tradition for many.
