RSU 63 school board officials discuss instabilities

Four of the eight members on the RSU 63 School Board resigned last week which raised eyebrows in the towns they serve including Holden, Eddington and Clifton according to WABI news.

However, instability has been a theme in years past in the district, and now, they’re hoping new leadership will turn things around.

This after four members out of the eight resigned.

Miscommunication and lack of leadership seemed to be a focal point however now officials are working to figure out how to create a sustainable district.

The select boards of Holden, Eddington and Clifton will have their regular January meetings to appoint replacements to the board to get them back to a functional state.

Hancock Grammar School officials discuss bus safety

After two Maine students were killed due to bus crashes in the past month, area school superintendents and administrators discussed safety according to the Ellsworth American.

The publication says in a letter to the Hancock School community, the principal of the Hancock Grammar School,  Adam Gray shared the school’s plans to ensure safe transportation is in place for the students. 

Gray told the paper bus drivers for HGS will meet up and practice procedures and discuss traffic flow, duty and protocols.

Homeless encampment cleared out in Bangor

Cleanup is underway at what was the site of a homeless encampment along railroad tracks behind Penobscot Plaza in Bangor according to WABI news.

CSX, the company that owns the property that part of the encampment sat on, indicated earlier this month cleanup would happen Monday.

A Bangor city official told WABI, most if not all of the people who were staying there left over the weekend.

Crews collected any items that remained, using heavy machinery to throw them in a dumpster.

Belfast and Holden PD collaborate for donation to soup kitchen

The Holden Police Department took a trip to Belfast on Monday and teamed up with their police department to donate loads of food and money to the city’s soup kitchen according to WABI news.

Soup kitchen leaders were blown away as $2,000 and 1,600 pounds of food were brought to the soup kitchen Monday morning, not on Santa’s sleigh, but police cruisers.

WABI reports it comes at an important time for soup kitchen staff and their guests. 

Throughout the fall, they’ve seen a 35% increase in people using their market.

That’s in addition to the 400 meals served by the soup kitchen every day. 

Staff says the food is critical for the community however they say the environment they create is also essential.

New restaurant will open in former Margaritas location in Ellsworth

The Ellsworth American reports Acadia 876 Bar and Grill will serve American food alongside Jamaican cuisine in the former location of Margaritas in Ellsworth.

One of the owners has years of experience in the food and beverage industry and is excited to bring a flavorful twist to the area.

The paper says the restaurant is set to open soon.

Madawaska PD catch the Grinch

Up in Aroostook county, the Madawaska Police Department responded to a call they weren’t expecting.

The Grinch was apprehended at a gas station and is charged with aggravated theft of Christmas presents.

However, the presents were restored and Christmas has been saved.
