State Police investigating two deaths in Tremont

State Police are investigating the deaths of two people in Tremont according to WABI news.

Police say just before 9:00am on Tuesday, a caller reported finding two adults dead near Big Rocks Road.

Police say the deceased will be taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office where autopsies will determine the cause and manner of death.

State Police believe this is an isolated incident.

Trenton house fire causes second floor to collapse on firefighter

A firefighter was injured and a home was destroyed in a fire in Trenton according to WABI news.

Fire officials believe the blaze was caused by embers from a wood stove igniting a nearby couch.

WABI reports the person who resided at the home on Pressey Lane got out without any injuries however a firefighter was hurt when a part of the second floor collapsed.

The firefighter was treated for a concussion, neck and back injuries however he is healing and stable.

WABI says the Trenton Fire chief wants to remind people to thoroughly clean their wood stoves, put the ash and debris in a non-combustible container and place it away from your house.

Fire officials remind residents of winter heating safety

The Ellsworth American reports Hancock county fire officials are warning residents about the importance of heating safety.

The Hancock fire chief tells the paper that residents should keep an eye on space heaters, keep holiday lights away from flammable objects and limit the use of candles.

The paper reports he suggests using flameless battery powered models as an alternative.

Other tips to keep in mind is getting your chimney cleaned and inspected and if you have it, water that Christmas tree before it dries out and becomes a hazard.

Pursuit of shelter for stray animals underway

The Ellsworth American reports the Small animal clinic in Ellsworth is ending their service as a stray animal shelter.

Now towns across Hancock County are taking steps to find that new location.

The county administrator tells the Ellsworth American the county has sought out requests for proposals but only a written agreement has been submitted.

The town of Brooksville is currently figuring out a plan as well.

Jasmine Ireland of Ellsworth High named Maine’s Outstanding Theatre Educator

Congratulations are in order for a theatre educator at Ellsworth High School who is being recognized for their exceptional leadership and creative vision.

WABI news reports Jasmine Ireland is named Maine’s Outstanding Theatre Educator by the National Federation of High schools.

She’s the director of Ellsworth High Theatre and also co-department head of the visual and performing arts department.

Holiday reminders from the city of Ellsworth

All state offices will be closed today due to the winter storm conditions.

Gov. Mills is urging everyone to use extra caution if traveling.

City of Ellsworth officials want to remind you the library is closed all day Wednesday and the city hall and transfer station closes at 2 p.m.

Also, with all of the snow keep that winter parking ban in mind.

Highway crews will  be out cleaning up so please make sure your vehicle is off city streets during the ban which is from midnight to 6 a.m. every day.
