Bill seeks to designate highway to fallen Hancock County Deputy Luke Gross
A public hearing in Augusta Thursday was proposed to designate Route 3 in Trenton as the Deputy Luke Gross Memorial Highway.
The bill, LD 2033, sponsored by Rep. Billy Bob Faulkingham (R-Winter Harbor) was heard in front of the Committee on Transportation at the State House.
Faulkingham said the resolve directs the Department of Transportation to designate a portion of Route 3 in the town of Trenton to Deputy Gross’s honor and to erect appropriate signage.
Hancock County Sheriff Deputy Gross, 44, of Hancock, was killed on Route 3 in September 2021 after being struck by a pickup truck while investigating a crash.
Those who spoke at the hearing echoed the kindness and humanity Gross instilled in the community.
