Two Maine DOT workers killed in I-95 construction zone crash
Two Maine Department of Transportation workers died and a third person was hospitalized after a van crash into a construction zone on I-95 Tuesday morning.
Maine State police say 34-year-old Samantha Tupper of Augusta was driving the van and failed to stop.
Once she attempted to enter the passing lane, the van was hit by a tractor-trailer traveling southbound.
The van then went into the work zone hitting three Maine DOT workers.
60-year-old James Brown and 51-year-old Dwayne Campbell both of Waterville were hit over the bridge.
The crash remains under investigation.
Eliot Cutler back in jail for violating conditions of release
A former two-time gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler is back behind bars after violating conditions of his release for a second time.
WABI news reports, two counts were filed Monday alleging Cutler violated the terms on Dec. 28 and Jan. 2.
He was booked into the Hancock County Jail Tuesday morning.
WABI news reports back in December, Cutler was in court after violating probation when he accessed sexually explicit content online while obtaining unmonitored devices.
The 79-year-old served seven months in jail after a May 2023 conviction.
Planned power outage for Versant customers
Versant Power officials announced a planned power outage on Thursday starting at 8:30 a.m.
Officials say the outage is expected to last an hour and the reasoning is for scheduled maintenance to the electrical system in Eddington and Brewer.
Those passing the area where crews are working are reminded to slow down or move over, never touch a downed power line or a tree in contact with one and to prepare your generators or alternative heating sources just in case.
Washington County audits reveal years of unbalanced books
According to a Washington County 2022 audit, commissioners face questionable spending, unbalanced books and invoices paid without proper authorization.
The Maine Monitor says this follows the alarming findings of years of mismanagement.
The publication reveals this information led to the $8 million debt last year giving auditors a glimpse at what’s going on while the 2023-24 audits have yet to be completed.
Southwest Harbor accepts bid for public works garage
The town of Southwest Harbor inches closer to a new chapter for their public works garage.
After the select board unanimously accepted a bid, the town will replace the current aging facility needed to protect town assets.
The Mount Desert Islander reports voters in Southwest Harbor will have the final say in the future of the project as it is dependent on local approval for matching funds.
The paper reports a special town meeting will take place on March 23.

Summit for a Cause: Katahdin
Women for Healthy Rural Living, a non-profit, has officially announced its fourth fundraiser ‘Summit for a Cause.’
The all-female guided hike runs take place July 31 through August 2 and applications are open.
Funds raised will benefit Women for Healthy Rural Living’s Elaine Hill MemorialNursing Scholarship.
This provides financial assistance to residents of Washington and Hancock counties pursuing postsecondary nursing education.
The donation to participate is $1,650 and participants can pay directly or raise funds through a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign.
