NTSB investigators in Bangor after fatal plane crash

Investigators from both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are on the site in Bangor where a plane crashed Sunday night.

Initial phases of the investigation are now underway as Bangor Police are awaiting approval to access the aircraft.

Six people are presumed dead after the plane stopped in Bangor to receive fuel and de-icing services, took off and then crashed.

WABI news reports airport officials ask for privacy of family and friends of those involved while investigators conduct their work.

The airport will be closed until Thursday at 9 a.m.

Ellsworth bus driver charged after crash

An Ellsworth school bus driver faces felony charges after a crash on Jan. 15.

Daniel Morse of Hancock is charged with driving to endanger and two traffic violations.

On Jan. 15 at approximately 5:11 p.m. Ellsworth PD responded to a report of a personal injury accident involving the school bus and another vehicle.

The driver of the car, Michael Sarran of Southwest Harbor, reportedly collided with the side of the school bus after Morse crossed the center line toward the breakdown lane on the southbound shoulder.

Sarran was transported to a Bangor hospital with serious injuries and Morse was treated on scene.

Four students were on the bus at the time.

Hancock County police departments will add body and cruiser cameras

Federal funding granted to the Hancock County Emergency Management Agency will bring body and cruiser cameras to multiple departments.

$2.3 million will support police departments in Bucksport, Ellsworth, the sheriff’s office, Winter Harbor, Gouldsboro, Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor.

However the Ellsworth American reports some departments have already invested in the technology.

Unemployment rate stands still according to November reports

The Maine Department of Labor states the number of jobs didn’t change much throughout the month of November however it did decrease since 2024.

The report shows the 3.2 percent unemployment rate has stayed within a narrow range throughout 2025.

However, officials believe the environment of decreasing employment rates along with low unemployment rates could be a result of people reaching retirement rather than younger people aging into the workforce.

The unemployment rate has been below four percent for 48 months.

Frost Fair returns to Moosehorn

Saturday, Feb. 7 Healthy Acadia and Friends of Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge invite the public to the second annual Frost Fair: A Winter Wildlife Refuge.

From 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at the refuge headquarters in Baring the free event will offer both indoor and outdoor activities for the family to enjoy.

Participants can go running, walking, snowshoeing or stay inside to make a bird feeder, wildlife fur displays or to enjoy the hot beverages and healthy snacks available.
