Perry woman convicted of murder will get a new trial

Maine’s highest court ruled that key evidence used against 41-year-old Kailie Brackett was scientifically unfounded.

Bracket was sentenced to 55 years in prison in 2024 for the murder of Kim Neptune, a 43-year-old woman from Pleasant Point.

Neptune was found dead in her home with nearly 500 stab wounds according to WABI news.

The court decided errors surrounding a podiatrist’s testimony led to them vacating Brackett’s conviction.

Work continues on Castine waterfront preparing for new State of Maine ship

As leaders at Maine Maritime Academy prepare for the arrival of the new State of Maine training ship, crews are putting the pieces together to build a new pier equipped for the vessel.

The work started in 2024 after the old State of Maine ship set sail on its final tour.

According to the president of MMA, sea trials for the new ship are expected to begin in the next week or so, and an MMA crew will be aboard to observe.

Then after its excursion up to Maine in March it’ll head to Texas for a joint training with Texas A&M.

It’ll be the first time the school acquires a ship built for maritime training and multi-mission capabilities.

Maine snowmobile club helps fulfill the wish of 90-year-old woman

Many of us dreamt of riding in a firetruck when we were younger or perhaps flying an airplane but for Barbara Mentzer of Pittsburgh it’s always been riding a trail groomer.

Her son David who lives in Maine and has been snowmobiling for years gave her the wish she never expected.

WABI news reports the St. Francis Sno-Angels Snowmobile club let her ride around in a groomer and it meant so much because his mother was a former avid snowmobiler who can’t handle being on a sled anymore but this was her way to enjoy her favorite thing, the great outdoors with her son.
