Maine State Police investigate fatal Surry crash
Maine State Police are investigating a fatal three-car crash that happened on Friday in Surry.
Police responded to the crash at around 2:44 in the afternoon on Blue Hill Road and say one car traveling northbound crossed the centerline for an unknown reason and struck two cars going southbound.
Police say 47-year-old Mark Nevells of Brooksville, the operator of the first vehicle sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The operators of the two other vehicles struck were transported to a local hospital and later released.
The investigation is ongoing.

Aroostook county mourns after learning Staff Sergeant Freeman Short, a fisherman, died after a vessel sank off the coast of Massachusetts.
Six others lost their lives as the sinking sent shockwaves through the fishing community and the Maine Army National Guard.
WABI news reports the 72-foot fishing vessel Lily Jean went down at about 25 miles off Cape Ann early Friday morning.
In a post shared by the Maine Army National Guard, Short was remembered not only as a fisherman but a dedicated soldier, mentor and leader.
Four seats on Holden-area school board filled
After multiple resignations late last year, four seats have been filled on the school board overseeing Holden, Clifton and Eddington.
The RSU 63 board of directors held a meeting appointing the new members by their respective town officials.
The Bangor Daily News reports this after a slew of concerns raised surrounding support by the board in recent years led to teachers and administrators leaving the school system.
Union River Center for Innovation workshop series
A new workshop series hosted by the Union River Center for Innovation begins next week.
The Business of Food is a four part series where participants can learn how to navigate food entrepreneurship with confidence.
Held at the center located at 415 Water Street in Ellsworth, the sessions will happen on Feb. 18, 25 and March 4 and 11 starting at 5 p.m.
Participants will explore their dreams, food business options, making food business a side hustle or hobby and they’ll learn the best practical lessons for running a sustainable food business.

Check out Northeast Harbor Library’s February exhibit
This February the Northeast Harbor Library will feature artist Mary Ternus’ work for two series.
The exhibit displayed will show paintings from Ternus’ ‘Monumental Landscapes’ series in which you can see specialized portraits, landscapes and more showing the world and galaxies beyond our imagination.
Patrons can also check out ‘Women Erased’, an ongoing project that honors women whose contributions went unrecognized.
The exhibit will be available to view during operating hours.
Kiss or Diss benefit for SPCA of Hancock County
For Valentine’s Day you can show a little love to the SPCA of Hancock County to help them raise funds for their Prevent a Litter program.
They introduce you to Kiss or Diss which is an online event allowing people to give a virtual kiss to their favorite shelter dog or cat or you can buy a diss in honor of an ex or former friend.
For the dog or cat that gets the most kisses, they will receive a special treat and for every diss, shelter staff will write the name of the diss recipient on the bottom of a litter box.
The cost for Kiss or Diss is $5 and can be purchased online through Friday, Feb. 20.
The prevent a litter program provides low-cost spay neuter certificates to pet owners in need.
