Trenton school committee talks reorganization
The Trenton School Department held a school committee meeting on Tuesday discussing a plan.
It involved the reorganization to turn Mount Desert Island Regional school system into one school unit.
The Ellsworth American reports the superintendent spoke with town clerks and officials to set up a vote on the matter.
The publication reports residents in member towns will see the question on their absentee ballots and officials believe this could result in better resource distribution and address staffing shortages.
Bar Harbor’s debate over limits on cruise ships continue
A business group out of Bar Harbor appeared before a judge Wednesday stating passengers from cruise ships are unfairly targeted.
The debate over limiting cruise ships coming into Bar Harbor has been ongoing bringing in two voter referendums.
The Bangor Daily News reports those referendums have imposed a 1,000 passenger daily cap.
The paper reports a business group argued the small portion of passengers only make up a small percentage of what causes congestion downtown and the excessive impact on business revenue violates the commerce clause.
The decision to uphold that limit remains however a judge is likely to release a written order in the coming weeks.
Hermon man pleads not guilty to voter fraud
After being accused of trying to vote in the name of his deceased uncle, Brian Rafford of Hermon, faced a judge in court on Thursday.
For the 2024 general election, Rafford is charged with attempting to vote in the name of another, two counts of committing forgery on an absentee ballot or application and voting twice in the same election.
WABI news reports Rafford plead not guilty to all four charges.
He’s due back in court on June 2.

Jessica Meir set to launch with NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 Friday
Things got switched around this week when the crew led by Maine’s Jessica Meir is set to launch to the International Space Station but it’s happening Friday.
The delay was due to weather conditions but Meir is ready for her second space mission after she participated in the first all-woman spacewalk in 2019.
WABI news reports Meri will have her husband, three-year-old daughter and of course all of Maine cheering her on.

Valentine’s Day crafting at Schoodic Arts for All

Happening Friday from 1-4, Schoodic Arts for All will host a free Valentine crafting session with several projects to choose from.
