Deer Isle man charged for vandalizing Stonington business

After vandalizing a business early Sunday morning in Stonington, a Deer Isle man is behind bars.

Police say 41-year-old Mark Vallejos damaged the storefront of Burnt Cove Market causing thousands of dollars in damage.

WABI news reports Vallejos will be arraigned in court on Monday.

Acadia National Park officials announce closure for peregrine falcon nesting

It’s that time of year where space is preserved for peregrine falcons to nest in Acadia National Park.

Officials announced the temporary closures of Jordans Cliffs Trail, Precipice Trail and Valley Cove Trail until further notice.

The parking lot  for the Precipice Trail will also remain closed to cars as officials look to protect the peregrine falcons from human disturbance or harassment which they say the falcons are vulnerable to.

The National Park service will announce the reopening of the closed areas.

Washington County vehicle weight public hearing

The Washington County Commissioners are looking for public feedback on March 12 as they discuss the enactment of a proposed ordinance.

The “Ordinance Restricting Vehicle Weight on Posted Ways” will prompt discussion on allowing municipal officials to close roadways in Washington County unorganized territories to cars with a gross registered weight above 23,000 pounds.

Officials say it could be a necessary step to prevent damage to roadways.

Loaves and Fishes ‘Internet Cafe’ open to broader public

Hancock County’s largest food pantry has announced an expansion to an essential service.

The Internet Cafe and computer area is now open to the broader public through Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.

Anyone can access the cafe during their open hours and no reservation is needed giving community members more access to curriculum, resume creation, job searching and more.

It’s all in an effort to decrease the digital divide opening up the space to the entire community.

Naiad Country Brewery expands into Blue Hill garden center

Great news for the owners of Naiad Country Brewery out of Orland.

The community favorite will expand their space according to a Facebook post into Mainescape Garden Center in Blue Hill.

The exciting chapter comes as the business has boomed the past couple of years giving locals good eats and drinks but also re-centering beer as an agricultural project.
