Bangor woman enters guilty plea to bank fraud
The Department of Justice says a 46-year-old Bangor woman conspired with others to fraudulently withdraw money from banks in 2024.
Nichole Kelley pleaded guilty in federal court to bank fraud.
WABI news reports Kelley impersonated legitimate bank account holders and used fake IDs to access accounts and withdraw money.
Kelley faces up to 30 years in prison and a maximum fine of $1 million however her sentencing date has not been set yet.

Composting company in Ellsworth gets criticism
Complaints over a disturbing smell in parts of Ellsworth are coming to the forefront.
Ellsworth officials are considering legal action against Maine Organics after multiple reports of insufficiencies and violations of ordinances.
The Bangor Daily news reports the city’s code enforcement officer will review the matter further about the facility with shellfish waste and wood shavings.
The publication reports the owner previously tried to mitigate the smell by tweaking the recipe and shift to evening hours however complaints still came in.
New Home2 Suites by Hilton constructed in Ellsworth
Those who wish to enjoy all that Ellsworth has to offer but may not call it home have another option for extended stays.
Project leaders are moving along smoothly as they construct a new Home2 Suites by Hilton near Walgreens.
The Ellsworth American reports the hotel is owned by Witham Family Hotels and the expectation is to welcome guests this Summer.
The owners also tell the publication this will create more opportunity for those who work in the area temporarily on top of peak-season travelers.
Maine DOL celebrates Women in Construction Week
Gov. Janet Mills has proclaimed the first week of March as ‘Women in Construction Week.’
The Maine Department of Labor along with state partners have launched a webpage sharing inspiring stories of women in Maine’s construction industry.
A variety of events are happening throughout the week to highlight the work that has been done resulting in more than 300 women working in trades along with over 400 women completing pre-apprenticeship programs.
Ellsworth architect honored state-wide
A huge congratulation to Ellsworth Historical Society board member Carla Haskell for Maine Preservation’s 2026 Honor Awards.
The Maine Preservation presents one person with the award and Haskell was selected as a state-wide 2026 award winner for commitment to historic preservation.
She will be recognized in Portland on March 18th and the public is welcomed!
Two major projects under Haskell’s guidance include The Grand and the Old Hancock County Sheriff’s Home and Jail.
