One dead after I-95 crash in Newport

Maine State Police responded to a crash on I-95 in Newport Tuesday night that left one person dead.

Troopers received reports of a stopped vehicle in the northbound lane near mile marker 157 and they later learned that the same car and a tractor trailer crashed.

The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Police say it’s still unclear why the car was stopped on the interstate.

Former gubernatorial candidate seeks bail after probation violation

After violating his bail conditions multiple times, an attorney representing Eliot Cutler is seeking to amend bail.

The 79-year-old is currently waiting for a hearing on an alleged probation violation in February.

The Ellsworth American reports his attorney says Cutler should be allowed to be released on reasonable bail pending his hearing.

Cutler has been in jail since February after he was found in a South Portland hotel allegedly throwing away covers of DVDs of adult pornography.

This after being on probation for four convictions of possession of sexually explicit material of a minor under 12.
