One killed, another in serious condition after fire in Readfield
Maine State Police say a 75-year-old woman died after a fire in Readfield on Friday night.
The Readfield Fire Department responded to a house fire on Plains Road at around 9:45 p.m..
Police say 74-year-old Jerrold Wentworth escaped the home from the second-floor window and told firefighters his wife Carolyn Wentworth was still inside.
Due to heavy fire conditions firefighters were unable to attempt a rescue.
Police say the body of the deceased was taken to the medical examiner for positive identification and determination of cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
Bar Harbor and Mount Desert police respond to hoax threat
After receiving a panic alarm and call Friday morning, Bar Harbor and Mount Desert police responded to MDI High school for a hoax threat.
Police say the call stated a man was there with a weapon in the parking lot threatening harm inside the school placing the school in lockdown.
Police say the threat sounded serious enough that law enforcement searched the entire building and grounds.
Police tell Star 97.7 they determined the phone number used was recently used for other false reports around the country.
Maine farmers call on Hannaford to buy more Maine-grown products
After leaders at Hannaford Supermarkets highlighted a shortage of carrots ahead of Easter, the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association issued a statement.
MOFGA is calling on Hannaford Supermarkets to buy more Maine-grown products and prioritize local contracts to reflect the real cost of local production.
A spokesperson for Hannaford told WMTW that they have invited MOFGA to meet with them and identify ways to work together and support Maine farmers and producers.
The spokesperson said Hannaford does source carrots from at least three Maine farms.
15th Annual Hancock County Food Drive underway
A Downeast tradition of feeding neighbors is officially underway.
Saturday was the first day of the 15th annual Hancock County Food Drive which is set to benefit 16 organizations this year.
WABI news reports the Ellsworth Police Department was outside of the Ellsworth Hannaford with volunteers collecting donations.
If you missed them over the weekend, no worries, the drive is going until April 11.
WABI news reports the Hancock County Food Security Network food pantries in the area collectively serve more than 10,000 people each month and efforts like this will meet the need and raise awareness.

Leaders at Stanley Subaru will present a check to the Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County as part of its monthly ‘Round Up for Change’ effort.
Happening April 6 at 11 a.m. community members are invited to witness the impact the initiative has as guests at Stanley Subaru round up their purchase totals to the nearest dollar pouring back into the community.
