Restriction of federal immigration agents in schools, health care facilities passed

The Maine Senate passed LD 2106 “An Act to Prohibit the Disclosure of Nonpublic Records without Proper Judicial Review.”

The Maine Senate passed the measure in a 79-69 vote.

WMTW reports Democratic lawmakers show the bulk of support for the bill mirroring the deferral sensitive locations policy.

The bill would restrict federal immigration agents from entering schools, hospitals, and state libraries without a judicial warrant.

The bill now goes to Gov. Janet Mills.

Woman accused of drug trafficking out of Belfast

Belfast Police say a woman has been arrested after they found drugs in her home during a probation check.

60-year-old Cherl Ann Briggs is charged with drug trafficking and unlawful drug possession.

WABI news reports during the search, police found fentanyl, meth, mushrooms and evidence of drug sales.

She was arrested and taken to Waldo County jail.

Ellsworth condominium project on hold

A funding gap is on the mind of a developer of a workforce housing project out of Ellsworth.

This after a grant application was denied by the state department of economic and community development for the expansion on Beals Avenue.

The Ellsworth American reports the city applied for a public infrastructure grant to finance a 36-unit, multi-family housing condominium development.

The paper reports the city council approved the application on March 26 however they were notified on April 13 the funding has been declined.

In a letter, the director of the office of community development cited concern about the development creating the grant benefit for low-income people during the grant period.

Dental clinic opens to Washington County residents

If you’re having trouble accessing dental care and confirming a provider, a dental clinic in Washington County could help.

Happening through April 17, at the Lee Pellon Event Center in Machias, residents in need can access a variety of dental services.

Fox 22 ABC 7 reports that Sunrise Opportunities say services range from examinations to root canals and even extractions for adults.

Winter Harbor Historical Museum gains new foundation

In an effort to restore and upgrade the building’s structure, the Winter Harbor Historical Society’s museum has solid ground — literally.

A new foundation has been placed under the 1877 house.

The Ellsworth American reports the renovations are now supported by a congressionally-directed spending grant which is over one million dollars.

Now the next phase of the restoration project will focus on upgrading the interior.

Family Fun Night at the Moore Community Center
